Mamma Bear assures Goldie's mom that Baby Bear is fine because bears can't get chicken pox. Henny Penny comes by to let the Lock's that the sky is falling. Jack Be Nimble wants to play with Goldie but her dad doesn't think it's such a good idea. Little Bo Peep has stopped by to see if she can find her sheep and Little Red Riding Hood wants some company on the way to her grandmother's house.
It is a very contemporary book with humor and intrigue. Goldie's brother just can't stop teasing her. He wants to connect her dots and wants to know why she can have ice cream and treats and he can't. At the end of the story however, he ends up with some very mysterious spots.
This poem will make children laugh and get them excited because they will recognize other characters form other nursery rhymes. They will also be able to relate to Goldie if they have ever had chicken pox themselves. It is a very cute and simply entertaining story for children to enjoy.

Another awesome Maggie Smith book.Review Date: 2006-08-03
The details in the pictures really make the story come to life. The squirrel's reactions to different scenes are funny, and I liked seeing Daisy's mom pushing a reel mower with Daisy's little sibling strapped to her! So even supporting characters have their own personalities.
I even learned something about chicken pox from this book. Since I was a newborn when I had chicken pox, I don't remember it, and I thought it was contagious for two weeks. When it only took a week for Daisy to get better, I did research and found that, indeed, it's contagious for about a week (although Peter was lucky not to get it before anyone knew Daisy was sick).
So, overall, the book is great for its creativity and warmth. Good for kids, parents, and people who just enjoy children's literature.
Sweet Get Well StoryReview Date: 2005-12-21
Daisy is likely cheered up by both the sweet presents Peter sends her (including a get well card and flowers) and the unusual delivery method --- Peter seems to have a fleet of animals (such as hippos and zebras) at his command, magically transformed from his stuffed toys.
The illustrations are soft and pleasing and full of visual detail to read and spot. This is also a counting story, which kids just learning to count will very much appreciate and have fun counting along with.

A great first child's book.Review Date: 2000-08-20
Laura writes about what happens to her and her brother and sister when they all come down the chicken pox and the story is delightful. Laura also illustrated the book as well. I especially enjoyed the dog's footprints to help guide you through the pages.
I have read this story to both my children several times and they enjoyed, in fact it has become a real bedtime favorite. At 11 and published, that is something to proud of and so is this book...

It's a cute look at sibling rivalry and envy. The story is readable and fun.
Once again the illustrations are fun to look at ~~ bright and colorful and cheerful. My boys can't read yet but they really enjoy the illustrations and I enjoy reading the stories.

Primarily focusing on enviousyReview Date: 2003-01-01
The circus is in town-everybody's excited to go, but when Arthur is sick with chicken pox, D.W. comes home from play group to find Arthur lying on the couch so wishes she was sick so pretends to think Arthur is just pretending to be sick. And as the story continues, D.W. shows how she wishes she was the sick one-and in the end, Arthur is better, but D.W. gets the chicken pox.
This will be a great book to teach about being careful what you wish for even when chicken pox no longer exists.
A Book About Being Sick That Children Will Like - a review of "Arthur's Chicken Pox"Review Date: 2006-07-07
My daughter went frantic for a while inquiring about loose teeth. She inspected the mouth of anyone who had missing teeth or who had wobbly ones. She asked what happened to them that they got loose, and what happened to them after they fell out....
In the same way, I see her looking at this book about chicken pox. She (and to a lesser extent, her brother) are curious about the spots, what they mean, etc. Also, I think it is just dawning on children this age that they can get very ill, and I believe it is comforting to them see that they will be cared for.
[One mom commented that she was concerned about how much loving care was lavished on Arthur and D.W. But I think it is reassuring to children.]
Four Stars. Okay Read-aloud that is interesting to children.

A Nice Fun Primer - a review of "Itchy, Itchy Chicken Pox"Review Date: 2007-03-08
As a primer it has a lot going for it. There's rhyme and pictures to give 'clues' as to what the words might be. And the print is large, well spaced for new readers, and there isn't a great deal of it.
On the down side, there are a few words that are harder, such as: yucky, mucky, itchy, twitchy, scratch, batch, and between. As you see though, there's repetition in the base forms (-atch and -ucky) so children can get some good practice.
Four Stars. Very Good Read-aloud. The topic is of keen interest to small fry and the text has a nice rhyme. Good primer material for fairly early readers. My just turned 5 y.o. had very little problem with reading it after the first time through.
