I've seen signs up in my local lab (when I went for blood tests) about the HPV virus. I'm guessing there are a lot of educational intitiatives out there. It's about time! Henderson, Yasgur and Warshowsky were out there educating women a couple of years ago. This is a really readable book and very informative. I hope that when women see the sign hanging in their labs, they'll turn to this book for information.

A real eye-opener

Dr. Henderson opened up my eyes to a major health problem in this country today--the HPV virus. I learned what it is, how it can be prevented, and how it can be treated. I was especially appreciative of Dr. Warshowsky's tips about holistic approaches, as I prefer to avoid medications and such whenever possible. I have three daughters in their teens and I have sat them down and talked to them about the virus. I asked them to read this book. The book, by the way, is very easy to read and they should have no problem understanding it. But I never felt "talked down to" by the authors either. I think every woman and teenager should read this!

STILL THE BEST BOOK OUT THERE ON HPV

Since the publication of this book, a spate of new books have come out discussing the HPV virus. It's great that this little-known condition has finally received some publicity! However, I would have to say that I still think this is the most reader-friendly and focused book around. I highly recommend it, and I give it to all my clients and patients who come in with the HPV virus. I hope that Henderson, Yasgur and co. publish more books on other medical topics.

Extremely informative

For women who take the extra steps to understand and take responsibility for their own bodies (and their daughters'), this book is another Must Read. Since women bear the brunt of consequences for most STD's, as well as other reproductive issues, it pays to be as informed as possible. Dr.Dr. Henderson and company are to be commended for bringing this particular issue into the light and to the popular consciousness.

THIS IS A VERY HELPFUL BOOK

I want to tell people that I think this is a great book, but I don't think I can add anything original over what the other reviewers have already said. This is definitely clear and helpful and I've recommended it to a lot of friends. Kudos to all the authors, especially Warshowsky and his holistic chapter.

I found this book to be very good for normalizing chronic STDs for women and displaying a wide range of coping strategies and reactions to infection. As a doctoral student, I found it helpful to review the data in a much more readable way!

A fascinating and informative read

I have just finished reading Damaged Goods? and I highly recommend it. This well researched book provides a fascinating and informative read into the lives of women with chronic sexually transmitted diseases. Adina Nack, through her sophisticated analysis, gives voice to a population that largely remains silent in today's society. While herpes and HPV affect millions of Americans, they are topics that are rarely discussed. The impact of this book should not be limited to people who share the condition, as this book can also provide valuable insight for both clinicians in the field and the general public. One can only hope that exploring the concerns and challenges faced by women with these conditions will help not only others with herpes and HPV, but also assist in decreasing the stigma surrounding the conditions.

Must-read for anyone diagnosed with HPV or herpes!

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with one of these STDs, then this is the first book to read! It's detailed, without being too academic. The women's stories are compelling, and the author really makes you think about how harmful those stereotypes about STDs can be, especially those about the types of women who get STDs. I also appreciated the author's honesty in revealing her own struggles with HPV.

As a mother of a young woman living with HPV, this book helped me understand her feelings and fears. Whether your daughter is 13 or 30, this is a must read for parents. After sharing this book ,we were able to sit down and begin a dialogue. Her mood swings and anger that had been directed at me were really symptoms of her trying to cope with her diagnosis. I didn't realize how alone and "damaged" my daughter felt. Our relationship is so much stronger now.

I wrote this handbook to be as a practical guide for residents/fellows/ students and other clinicians in taking care gyn onc patients. Gyn onc patients are unique in the sense that they are surgical patients but usually with many medical problems (HTN, DM, COPD,etc). Thus, this handbook was written more like a combination of the surgery handbook + the Washington manual. my residents and fellows at UT Southwestern/Parkland and UTMB especially found the complication management section to be helpful in taking care their sick patients in the middle of the night. The chemo section is as update it as the GOG manual. I kept the book small enough to be pocket size, thus, easier to carry around.

This books is written for clinicians like you. thus, any feedback from you will be appreciated and incorporated to the next edition. thanks...

This handbook is concise, yet packed with the kind of information you need at the bedside, on rounds, or in preparation for the OR. Several of the sections have clear tables which make quick reference possible. And the procedures section provide clear step by step instructions for most all cases.

There is great, easy to access information in this pocketbook not only on the subject of Gyn Onc, but also on the medical management of patients, which is so important in the practice of Gyn. Oncology. The medical management section is broken down by systems (e.g., neuro, pulmonary, etc.).

Handbook of Gyn Oncology is a beneficial pocketbook not only for students/residents on a Gyn Onc rotation, but also for students and residents on other medical or surgical rotations (I've used it both on Dr. Santoso's rotation and in other months). Whether you need to know what the risks for HIV or hepatitis transmission during hemotransfusion or how/when to dose heparin or fresh frozen plasma, it's in this book. This pocketbook also contains descriptions of commonly performed surgical procedures in gynecologic oncology, as well as sections on chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Dr. Santoso is considered one of the finest clinical educators at The University of Tennessee, and his book is concise, thorough, and highly recommended.

Best Instructions on Taoist Magick in English!

Review Date: 2007-12-10
Ok, back in 1999/2000 I was all about trying to find books in the enlglish language that gave the reader step-by-step working techniques in Taoist Magick/Sorcery. Some unfamiliar with Zheng Yi Taoism pass off Taoism as just a "form of philosophy". They were never exposed to the Zheng Yi magickal side that involves registries of spirits and gods and demons, and techniques on how to command these celestial beings to command millions of spirits under their command. The paranormal side is something that Paul Dong covers in some of his books, but this series is THE best to put it ALL TOGETHER! This is actually one of the best metaphysical systems over all complete with healing, qigong, inner alchemy, yoga, psychic development, magical techniques, metaphysical understanding of the multi-verse, psychology, treatment and diagnosis of the whole spectrum disorders with Qigong medicine, energy work, energy anatomy and physiology, etc, etc, everything, EVERYTHING!!!!!

Dr. Jerry Alan Johnson has done us a favor by being the first to present such powerful information in the English Language at such a level. Before him, you would have had to speak Mandarin to learn such material.

He deserves over 5 stars. I hope that in the future, he will take me in as a personal apprentice!!!

If your into Oriental Medicine, Internal marial arts, qigong/yoga, Eastern Metaphysics and magick, then THIS ONE....THIS SERIES...THIS AUTHOR...IS...THE...RIGHT...ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

'In this book, Drs. Rohan and Shah have produced a comprehensive treatment of the evidence relating to cervical cancer and etiology and prevention. They have done so by assembling a team of leading cervical cancer researchers who have addressed the biology and natural history of human papillomavirus infection and cervical cancer, as well as the etiology of cervical cancer, approaches to its prevention, and the policy issues relating to implementation of preventive strategies. The book is very timely in that it synthesizes the substantial advances in knowledge of these topics that have taken place in recent years, advances that put us on the threshold of a new era in cervical cancer prevention and control.' What Every Woman Should Know about Cervical Cancer

The book "What Every Woman Should know about Cervical Cancer" is an e excellent educational tool for women and girls. I learned more about my body in health and disease, how to improve my health, how to avoid risks, and what to do if I get sick. With lot of compassion, the authors are leading sick woman through all phases after the first day of diagnosis of cervical pre-cancer and cancer, decisions how to proceed, treatment, advising her where to expect and where to seek for help. All this is accompanied with encouragement to become an active advocate for her own health. There are also explanation about HPV vaccinations, so women can come to an informed decision.

I would recommend this to all women, their spouses, students and health providers.

Much used and needed book if you are going into the cytology field. Clear, concise, in a 1lb book, what more can students ask for?

It simplified the reporting system of exfoliative cytology.

The Bethesda System for Reporting Cervical/Vaginal Cytologic Diagnoses has greatly simplified and standardized the nomenclature for reporting the spectrum of pathologic as well as non-pathologic conditions of the cervix and vagina. The pictures are helpful, although it would have helped more if there are more than one picture for every condition to show the spectrum of any said condition. This would help guide the cytotechnologists/cytopathologists in naming, reporting the condition. What is exemplary in the system is its integration of the reporting of the adequacy of the specimen. This has a lot of impact in the clinical corelation as well as alerting the physicians of the possible limitations of the diagnosis. All in all, it is a well made system.
