I had a fundamental problem. I had a problem with self-acceptance. I dint like myself. I did not like the way I was psychologically made up. And then I got to experience Mike's CPR work. As Mike weaved his design magic, I was able to see how what I seek out of life and relationships is my strength and I am able to leverage these to create abiding fulfillment in my life and work.

Clearly, Mike is the alchemist and resilience is the alchemy that he practices.

I wish and pray that many people connect to their souls out of this fascinating book. I believe that this is a contribution of a planetary proportion- one that holds promise to transform the way we think about evolution- personal and collective"

CPR for the Soul: Great insight on how to design a resilient life

In early 2005, I had the privilege of attending a seminar conducted by Mike Jay on CPR for the Soul. By the end of the workshop, I walked away with a new found awareness of my life's path, and had developed a resilient design that efficiently supported the personal and professional direction that I wanted to take. I am elated to see that Mike has written a book that puts forward his profound ideas. As with his workshop,I found myself feeling as if Mike Jay once again speaking directly to my soul. He has succeeded in presenting complex thoughts and ideas in beautifully written and readily accessible format.

I believe that it is critical that we develop a newer mindset for governing and overcoming the demands and circumstances that we find ourselves being faced with on a daily basis. This brilliantly considered book offers timeless and relevant information that can be learned by all of us to deal with today's challenges. Mike Jay has packed CPR for the Soul with an abundance of information designed to guide you through the process of creating "your" design that allows your heart's deepest desires to emerge.

In this age of increasing globalization and seemingly endless possibilities for transformation, Mike Jay encourages us to stop for a moment and ponder the paths that we have taken, and to discover how we can "live our lives and be lived by our lives" (p.14 ). The resilient design is well differentiated and then integrated as the internal and external aspects are aligned to create greater aliveness.

The back cover of the book suggests that this process "liberates you from having to change vs. doing the change." This phrase epitomizes the philosophy of Mike Jay, and is an essential ingredient that is core to the essence of his book. Not only has he committed much of his life's work to promoting resilience in others, he generously offers us the benefit of his wisdom on page after page. This wisdom is available for all of us, if only we choose to take the time to read and heed. Mike Jay is a genuine leader in the field of business leadership and developmental coaching. These qualities come through clearly in CPR for the Soul: Creating Personal Resilience by Design.

The concepts of CPR for the Soul give permission to EXHALE - to live from the discovery of our innate 'OKness'. In that knowledge, we express our soul's desire, we live the vital diversity that nature models and we are liberated from personal enslavement to unattainable values...this book provides the instruction manual that allows us to 'grow and flourish where we are planted'... who wouldn't want that wisdom?

If you find Personal, Business & Financial Resilience of interest to your SOUL, then this book, CPR For The Soul by the wonderfully brilliant mind of Mike Jay is for YOU!

I've studied many of this gentleman's written works over the past few years, and his New Book is his most brilliant work to date!

I had the good fortune to purchase the book before the public launch; and today I've now purchased others to personally donate to our local high School, library & church.

I wish Mike's book was part of every young person's curriculum even before college. They'd be better prepared for life's journey by reading it sooner rather than later!

This book gives you BREATH for your Soul!

CPR for Your Sex Life is a wonderful guide for couples and clinicians alike. It does offer advice, but what I especially appreciate is that it provides a pathway for couples to broaden and deepen their intimate relationship that is unique to them enabling them to discover a sex life and intimate relationship that is better than it ever was.

This is a self-paced workbook, so readers can choose areas where they would like to linger. There are relationship enhancing activities on nearly every page that are easy to follow, not too long, and they actually work! There is plenty to keep a couple moving forward for quite a long time. It is written in straight forward, direct language with lots of examples to jump start communication. While there isn't an index, the table of contents is very detailed and helpful. The focus is on heterosexual relationships.

The overall attitude of this book is upbeat. Couples are guided to explore and talk about things that many may have previously thought about but didn't know where to begin in a sensitive and realistic way.

As a sex therapist I highly recommend this book as a professional and personal resource for other health care professionals. I especially recommend it for couples who are ready for more sex, intimacy, and fun. Millie Brown and Stephen Braveman have used sensitivity, intelligence, years of experience, and wisdom to create an exceptional workbook and guide.

You would think that after writing an 854-page book on sex, I would know most of what's in "CPR for your Sex Life" by Brown & Braveman--and I probably do. But what's so nice about CPR is how the authors lay everything out is a way that is accessible and fresh. It was as if I was reading all of these suggestions for the first time, and these truly are the steps that many couples who are struggling with little or no sex in their relationships need to begin with.

Of course, there are those couples who bring us problems that are so seeped in psychodynamic turmoil that we end each session feeling emotionally tarred and feathered. They require our finest clinical skills and will not be helped by this book or any other. And there are situations where physical conditions or a combination of physical and emotional issues loom large, and they will need an approach that requires the coordination of multiple disciplines.

However, for the majority of couples, this book is a wise companion, providing a helpful and easy to understand roadmap for how to get the sexual part of a relationship back on track.

The one aspect of "CPR" that might scare away some clients is that it asks for written responses throughout. So I tried to put myself in the mindset of a person who only writes in mono-syllabic grunts, and still came away with much that was good. If your client finds the blank lines overwhelming or a good excuse for resistance, tell them to just answer the questions in their mind. In doing so, they will still get much that is wise and helpful from this excellent book.

My only problem with the book came at the very end where the authors imply that males can control the timing of their ejaculations if they will just work at it--were it that easy for many of us, be we too slow or too fast! But this is only a minor issue, and the authors wisely counsel their readers not focus on the genital part of sex until they've established a more solid relational base. "CPR" is full of advice that we can all learn from, and keep going back to time and again if we want to keep our sexual relationships vibrant and alive.

This little book is a must for all adult people. It addresses the serious question of what would you want done if you became mortally ill, were in an accident or in a coma and otherwise would not be able to speak for yourself. The frank, but gentle, theme of this book helps one to think about their own desires in these cases. One may think that it is only for "old people", but I think it is an important thing for each adult to consider carefully and let loved ones and your doctor know of your wishes. I would highly recommend this book for all adults.

This amazing little book, "Hard Choices for Loving People", is one of the best gifts you could ever give a patient and family who are facing these important end-of-life choices. Mr. Dunn says it so clearly, objectively, and compassionately that so much of the fear and pain of the decision is removed. I am a geriatric nursing leader of 43 years and have felt fortunate to have found this fine book in the early 1990s. I have shared it with many healthcare organizations and providers in California...from acute care to hospice, home health, Long-Term care, and now my church ! Thank you Mr. Dunn. I found CPR for Caregivers a concise, thoughtful and practical guide. I am a psychologist working in geriatric mental health care. During my work, caregivers often ask questions on how to help their family member. They have a great need to learn how to "Connect, Project, & Reflect through mind, body, and spirit". The author, Grant Watkins, managed to discuss caregivers' experiences without preaching from theoretical positions. There was a wonderful honesty and sensitivity in the book. The hopefulness in the "Success Stories" leaves the reader feeling a renewed strength. I think the book will provide a very sincere support to anyone providing care.

An interesting and enjoyable book

CPR for Caregivers is a small but powerful book. I had a severely handicapped sister that was blind and suffered from mental disabilities. I was one of the primary caregivers and experienced many of the same feelings that the author described in his book.

Although my sister has since passed away, this book gave me a better understanding of my feelings during many stressful times in my life. Most importantly it helped me overcome some the guilt that I have been carrying around for many years.

It is a must read for those that are caregivers. It is full of personal experiences that many readers will be able to relate to. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

I have just finished Grant's book. It is a very novel approach to what I have read on caregivers. His emphasis on healthy ways of caring for oneself is emphasized.I couldn't agree more that connecting with oneself - body, mind & soul - is paramount to any life altering endeavor one faces.

Awareness of how one projects onto another, as well as deeper self-reflection are also viewpoints that are worth pondering. Of course we know that too many caregivers would feel overwhelmed at the thought of working on themselves in the midst of caregiving...but the truth is that this is key to providing better care. Grant states this over & over; making the connection. I also very much enjoyed his stories to emphasize his points. The tale of his Dad on Halloween night was also quite touching. I found Grant to be "transparent" in his writing, genuine & truely focused on the message.

CPR for Caregivers arrived today and I just finished it about one minute ago. It's Wonderful, with a capital W! It is clear, personal, practical, do-able, encouraging. I especially liked Grant Watkins' own bike ride story, and reading about his dad and the trick or treaters at the end of the book. His examples and ideas are memorable. I can imagine a friendly presentation by the author around these ideas. Cheering for Grant Watkins and CPR for Caregivers! Judy Halley

What they're saying about "CPR for Dummies"

"Mickey Z. has written a novel about the end of the world that reads like a Stanley Kubrick movie of a Kurt Vonnegut novel cut into little pieces and spliced back together."
- Levi Asher, Literary Kicks

"Mickey Z. has thought a lot about politics and a lot about sex. He's thought about politics while having sex, and about sex while having politics. As a result, Mr. Z. has written an orgasmic Left revolt-book! I am surprised that I liked the novel, actually. I didn't know that I enjoyed anything written after 1931."
-- Sparrow, poet and presidential candidate

"Mickey Z.'s CPR for Dummies is a ribald collage of styles, points of view, and blasphemies. Written loosely in the style of a play, the novel includes the author as a character, a sex-crazed priest and a confession-booth orgy to rival the best of Rabelais. Both satiric and insightful, the book manages to invoke both Armageddon and optimism. With politics sure to rile even the most self-righteous liberal, Mickey pulls off a tour de force -- a textbook within a play within a parody within an urban memoir. It is a book that is as tongue in cheek as Vonnegut and Bukowski -- funny, sexy, surprising and entirely iconoclastic."

I liked this book... I'm just sure if everyone else will. Giving it a five star rating is something I'm almost hesitant to do... but after all... I am judging the book on how much I enjoyed reading it... and that was one whole hell of a lot.

CPR for Dummies isn't really a novel... it's not really even fiction... it's a story wrapped in a psychic storm of fact, fiction, opinions, and intercourse. It's a stream-of-consciousness designed for you to choke on. And swallow.

It's also (whatever it is) very funny...

Mickey Z's viewpoint is not always a popular one (or one I always agree with) but what can I say... I like a guy who asks questions. Consider the possibility that you may be (on occasion) wrong... and you might learn something.

Maybe even how to win a fight...

CPR for Dummies is a brilliant, inventive, and thoroughly enjoyable novel. It's filled with wild, engaging characters and an interesting mix of sex and politics--part Henry Miller and part Howard Zinn. While it has a storyline that moves compellingly forward, it also uses a postmodern collage structure that carves out plenty of free space for author playfulness, surprising anecdotes about history and science, and urgent political commentary. I read it in two sittings and found it to be both a real page-turner and an educational treat. And watch out for the ending.

I don't think there'll be a more bizarre book released in 2008, that's for sure. CPR for Dummies combines a screenplay, a day-long gritty Lower East Side (that's NYC for people who don't know) sex narrative, a corrupt priest and his group of idiosyncratic followers, and the end of the world into something delightfully weird.

Briefly, on the last day on earth (think "Armageddon"), a sexually voracious woman and her boyfriend get trapped in a church with a priest and his small congregation, who divulge their stories as the world outside them gets crazier and the meteor gets closer. Climax of the book is a three-way orgasm in a confessional.

And that climax is previewed by Mickey himself. At the beginning of the book he tells you, in italics and parentheses, that it's going to happen. This is CPR for Dummies' central conceit -- no-nonsense meta comments from the author. (He even puts them in the back-of-the-book copy.)

They're the best thing about the book. They come at the end of every chapter (and the chapters are short an readable) -- for example, I'm almost done writing this paragraph.

(it wasn't very good, was it? You're probably bored already and clicking off to another site.)

Mickey Z's meta strategy becomes addictive; after a while you're waiting for his out-of-the-box comments, which often reveal which of the book's many entertaining anecdotes actually happened to him. When I (tried to) read A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, I got caught up in the preface. The first sentence: "It is not necessary to read the preface." Well, I thought, that's annoying -- it's probably not necessary to read the whole book. And I put it town.

Mickey Z's meta strategies are MUCH more palatable. When you finish this book, you feel like you know him, and you also feel like you've been through a long, strange trip to obliteration.

Fortunately, more and more people are learning about the value of AEDs in saving lives. "Challenging Sudden Death" is essential reading for members of any community interested in starting an early defibrillation program. The basic steps needed to launch a successful program are outlined very simply in this book. Having launched a successful AED program, Bartholomew County HeartSavers, Inc. has a "first step" piece of advice for other communities: read "Challenging Sudden Death".

In my research for resources I feel assured this book should be referred to as the "Gold Standard" for implementing an AED program in all communities. It is indeed, a wonderful tool you've designed and I strongly recommend anyone interested in implementing AEDs in their community to read this book.

Thank you again, for developing such a wonderful and needed tool. Success in saving lives and making a difference in our community will be achieved once we implement the model so expertly outlined in your book.

In one of the smartest moves in years, the American Red Cross has published this laminated, fold-out, Adult CPR/AED Skills Card. It is part of a three-card reference set (this one: Adult CPR/AED Skills Card; First Aid Skills Card; and Infant and Child CPR Skills Card).

It is designed to be both highly survivable (laminated both front and back) and EASY to read and do. Students use this in the Red Cross Adult CPR and AED Courses and then take it home to place it where they need it most -- their desks at work or in their home first aid kits! I like the concept, and so do many others who have taken the course.

This is a step-by-step guide and SIDE ONE has: Checking the Unconscious Adult; Conscious Choking (Heimlick Maneuver); Unconscious Cocking (Chest Thrusts); Rescue Breathing. SIDE TWO has: Adult CPR; Using an Automated External Difibrillator (AED); and CPR in Progress/Using an AED.

This Card is currently used in American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED Program courses at the Citizen-Responder level. The techniques are Emergency Cardiac Care (ECC) 2000-compliant.

No home, work, or recreational first aid kit should be without it!

The author tells us that TV is a good teaching tool. It can also mesmerize us to spread evil. Most assuredly if not used properly it steals our valuable time. Quotes from Holy Bible such as Ecclesiastes 8:6 "for there is a proper time and end procedure for every matter." make one think about order in one's life. The CPR from above by Dr.Johnson, a medical doctor by profession is a unique book, it makes one to read,to think and analyze the scriptures.

This book is a great one to have for daily meditation and discussion. It also helps in designing one's course in healthy living.

Dr. A.C. Johnson has done a superb job of giving us the pearls for our daily benefit. "Like the streams in the desert" by the Reverend Billy Graham, Dr. Johnson's book is worth having in our homes. This may first of its kind by a highly qualified medical doctor.

I highly recommend it for personal and family devotions. It is very interesting and at times intriguing.

The book is well written. It has nearly 530 pages. There is enough space between each devotional for personal writing notes. If there was not enough space between devotionals, the book would have been sized to 360 pages. The size may be little intimidating but it is the content that helps reader to achieve higher spirituality.

This book is written by my Aunt who presently has a school in Regina Saskatchewan named after her. I found ia a very interesting read of a side of my extended family that I have never known.

The novel's style and the struggles it portrays strikes a very familiar note to me, being that I was raised in the prairies by 1st generation Canadian parents of `very' English ancestry. My aunt was a feminist before her time and our family always thought that Auntie Ruth was very determined and individualistic, a person who did not hold typical views of what a women's role in society should be.
