Take the time to read this book. It is worth the read and it is a truly a touching account of a caring, loving husband and how he and his wife together battled through the years she battled with Hodgkin's. If this book does not move your heart to care about people, nothing will. Totally worth the time to read this book. It is not hard to pick up, but hard to put down.

A great book for everyone--not just those with cancer
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 1999-03-05
A very interesting and informative introduction to Eastern healing, such as acupuncture and macrobiotic diet. Also a touching and uplifting story of a family's struggle with cancer. Ms. Todd's recipes and sources for further reading are especially helpful. The title sums it up: healing through an effective combination of "alternative" Eastern therapies and "traditional" Western medicine. Highly recommend this book for all those facing any serious illness. It does not claim to have all the answers, but helps identify some concrete ways to help in healing yourself (or at the very least, to better tolerate treatments).

This book has forever changed my life. While in the hospital with a respiratory infection in 2005 as a result of chemotherapy, a nurse gave me Dr. Gaynor's book, The Cancer Prevention Program when I had asked for something to read. What is amazing is I have always been fascinated with how miraculous our bodies are and by what it takes to thrive. I thought I was doing things right until I read this wonderful book. What a lightening bolt! I could not put it down and took copious notes as I read. That was the beginning of a lifesaving journey to good health. I have since given his book to so many people and have begun teaching classes to help others strive for a better and healthier life. His information is correct and incredibly helpful for anyone wanting to stay or become healthy.

An extraordinary history book, sadly, still valid today

Review Date: 2009-04-26
This extraordinary book traces the history of cancer as a disease and cultural phenomenon through the mid-1980s. Perhaps its most horrifying message is how little has changed since then, that is, how cancer prevention rarely prevention and cancer therapy rarely cures but only prolongs the euphemistic "progression-free disease." Worth reading for any one interested in the history of medicine, the totemic nature of our continuing belief in mythic cures, and our slow and far-from-steady progress in health management.

A Primary Sourcebook for Chemotherapists

This an extremely sophisticated analysis of one of the most troubling aspects of chemotherapy, namely the tendency over time for a patient to develop resistance to the agent being applied. The Goldie-Coldman model for resistance is one of the best known in chemotherapy. Since it operates at a level of some mathematical complexity, some physicians and biochemists have found it somewhat off-putting. However, in this book, the authors have carefully minimized mathematical complexity and emphasized an intuitive approach which is very approachable by most oncologists. This book is an excellent resource, one which should be in the library of every chemotherapist,

What an inspirational story!

This is a book that will really change your thoughts and feelings on your own personal battles in life. The author details all of the problems he has faced but yet he continues to trust in God's will for his life. What an inspiration to us all! It will make you second-guess your own complaints in life once you read about what he is going through each day.
I was recently able to attend one of his book signings, but unfortunately he was unable to attend due to the complications he faces daily with his inoperable brain tumor.
We can all learn a lot from his story!

A book for the soul
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 1998-08-25
Although many people find dying a truly upsetting and unescapable practice, Franz-Oliver Giesbert sheds light on the final outcome, death. If it was a black and white picture there would be no need to go beyond teh capabilities of the human mind. Since there are many shades of grey we as beings and creatures of this planet must identify them as well. This novel takes great steps towards the ultimate goal in life, which is dying content and tranquil. If I had to live my life as someone else or after someone else; that somebody would be Francois Mitterrand. I highly recommend this book if you are into soul searching and finding answers.

A Heartbreaking Work
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2008-11-27
My father wrote this short book about my brother and sister, so I am not really an objective observer... In any case, my father has done a wonderful job of relating a few humorous family stories; the fear and anxiety of his children's cancer diagnoses and treatments; and the heartache of their deaths.

The passing of a child is known as one of the most difficult events a person can bear and my parents have borne it twice. Aside from this book being a catharsis for my father, it is a fitting tribute to my wonderful siblings. I believe, and hope, that it also serves as an educational tool for the families of those touched by an untimely demise from cancer.

Please note: "El Cancer y Su Tratamiento..." contains Spanish and English in the same book.

A MUST READ FOR THOSE WHO VALUE HEALTH & VITALITY FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2008-01-19
Electronic Medicine by Alan Stang is truly an eye-opener. The first few chapters give background into the history of medicine, basically Homeopathic at the time. Then along came Allopathy, and the battle starts and has continued to this day. Allopathy has a place, but we and they have to realize what that place is, we can no longer allow the Pharmaceutical Industry dictate how medical Doctors practice, they have become slaves to the system on order to survive. The author has a comedic and somewhat satirical sense of humor which was welcome when devouring this information which in and of itself can be dry, however Alan makes the journey pleasurable. I appreciated the history lesson, and gives the reader a very good understanding of just what is going on in our present day health care, and the battles within our medical establishment and government. If you have children this is a must read book full of well researched documented information on vaccines, all the way down to the ingredients of most childhood vaccines. Should you have parents, siblings, or a spouse you love and care about, you will cherish this book, as it will put health care back into the hands of the individual, where he or she will have the information to make the decisions that life may throw our way. This book will empower you with the suppressed information to enable the body to heal itself, as it was meant to do and will do, if given the right tools. In the end we must all take responsibility for our quality of life, not give it away to an institution whether it be government, medical or pharmaceutical, for their profit, because you will lose! I will always be indebted to this author, Alan, for this unselfish piece of investigative journalism, in this day and age it is truly rare.
