I just recently bought your book for my 7 year old daughter. She has a lot in common with your book. Her older brother is packing to leave for college and my daughter, Brooke, is really having a hard time adjusting. We sat down the other night and I watched as her brother read her the book. Brooke now understands that she has a "Wiggles" inside of her and that "Wiggles" will take care of her heart while her brother is gone.

Thank you for making learning fun

My mom bought me Wiggles the White Blood Cell and it is a wonderful book. I am six years old and the book has helped me learn how our bodies are fixed. I enjoyed listening to wiggles travel through the body and I loved to here that wiggles home is in the heart. I am very excited to bring this book to show and tell at school. Thank you!

As someone who has been through a blood stem cell transplant, I can not emphasize enough how helpful and informative this book was. I was fortunate to have "found" it before the procedure and it provided me with information that not only helped me make informed decisions, but also went into enough detail so I understood how I was going to benefit from a transplant and what I was going to go through.

I consider this must reading for anyone facing this medically and emotionally complex process.

Bone Marrow and Blood Stem Cell Transplants: A Guide for Patients is well written and comprehensive in its coverage of the transplant process. I was fortunate enough to be a stem cell donor and this book helped me understand what I would be going through when donating, but more importantly it helped me understand what a transplant recipient must go through.

I wish this book had been written 15 years ago when my daughter had a bone marrow transplant for AML leukemia. It explains in clear but sensitive language not only the procedure but answers the myriad of questions that confront a patient's family.

This book should be required reading for healthcare providers prior to working with transplant patients. As a healthcare provider, I found the information in this book to be invaluable in explaining the transplant process. This book covers all aspects of the patient's experience from diagnosis through coming home and the post-transplant years.

People who have told me how helpful this book is are right! It explains the procedures so that those who aren't medical professionals can understand them. It explains how to understand test results, much of what the transplant patient will go through, and how to deal with the side effects and ramifications. It even offers suggestions of ways to help out patients and their caregivers and family!

I have never seen a more comprehensive, down-to-earth book about this subject. My friends and I strongly recommend it.

This is one of the finest atlases of peripheral blood cells I've ever seen. The photomicrographs are clear and definitive and the verbal and visual comparisons to aid in differentiation are excellent. Well organized and easy to find what you are looking for. Because the author used actual photomicrographs rather than drawings, she put this atlas head and shoulders above the competition.

I had the pleasure (and panic) of being trained under Mrs. O'Connor herself at Yale before she retired. This lady knows her stuff and has a slide collection that's incredible. We use this book in my lab all the time. Great photos. Highly reccomend!

Excellent Peripheral Blood Morphology Reference Book

This is an excellent reference book for those learning to evaluate peripheral blood smears. There are sections for each cell type that focus on morphological characteristics of each maturational stage utilizing written characteristics, photomicrographs and an illustrated line drawing that labels all of the distinguishing features. This is invaluable for the learner. There are also separate sections on comparative morphology, enabling the learner to distinguish cell types that are similar (blasts vs reactive lymphs for example). Examples of many RBC and PLT morphological variants are also noted.

I have used this book extensively for training of Clinical Laboratory Scientists and Pathology Residents, and recommend it highly.

I appreciate how Donald Rizzo explains the assortment of topics in his book. At first I considered I would be turned off to all the information to learn. I found how he explained cephalad, caudal, medial and lateral with much clearness. The examples of how to use each one was uncomplicated to learn from. The Integumentary System and Nervous System chapters were complex to a degree. This subject is not as easy as intro to biology. This book ranks high in my mind. Other recommendations.....

Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide:Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi

Excellent primer! A brief, concise Introduction to A&P!
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2006-10-14
Donald C. Rizzo has done an excellent job in making this book. If you never took A&P in college, and you want to learn the subject on your own for whatever reason, this is the book to start with, hands down. It does exactly what the title implies; it covers the fundamentals without a lot of wordiness, making the material easier to retain. My point: you definitely learn the subject, and fast! The book is so easy to read, its like a novel. I simply couldn't put it down. By following the mantra to independent study and learning (repetition, repetition, repetition), I believe I am as competent in the subject as anyone who took one year of A&P (as far as the fundamentals go), due to the fact that the text is straightforward, concise, and well written. I haven't found a recognizable mistake in the text yet. I also recommend buying the study guide, which helps retention.

However, I consider this book a primer, because other textbooks I've examined, such as Thibodeau and Patton's "Anatomy & Physiology (5th)," and John W. Hole Jr.'s "Essentials of Human Anatomy & Physiology (6th)," explain the material in somewhat greater detail, with more to learn. But so do the A&P books used in medical school courses. The bottom line is this: once you have gotten the fundamentals from Rizzo's book stabilized in your memory, you can step up to the larger, more detailed texts, not just the two mentioned above, but even the texts used in medical school. That is what makes Rizzo's book an excellent primer to the subject.

This book is a great learning tool! It "teaches" you about your own body, how it works and why you should care about what you eat, exercise, etc. The book is very well structured, with an objectives list at the beginning of each chapter and reasoning skills questions at the end, that helps you develop study and observation skills. This is a great book that changed the way I see my body, I learned a lot with this book!!

Superb crime noir

Review Date: 2007-04-03
Raymond Miller's P. I. novel, The Scent of Blood grabbed me by the throat with the first sentence: "She was a woman who had once been beautiful and would someday be beautiful again." That one sentence thrust me back into the crime-noir novels of old that have been missing from bookshelves for many years. Maybe it's just me, but I swear I heard Humphrey Bogart as the voice of Nathaniel Singer, P. I.

Like all good P. I. novels, it opens with a beautiful woman crying in a gumshoe's office and pleading for help. And the P.I., who's always in need of cash and is a soft touch for a pretty lady, takes the case.

The case involves the death of the celebrated pediatric cardiologist, Dr. Andrew Carpenter, whose work with embryonic cell research has caused quite a stir in the world's scientific community. The widow Carpenter doesn't believe that her husband was the victim of a hit-and-run on a Manhattan street. She's convinced that hubby was murdered and manages to convince Singer that there may be some unanswered questions.

Singer isn't just an ordinary gumshoe. He's an ex-poet who has a way with words and similes and a way of getting information and getting into trouble. He learns that Carpenter is not everything his reputation makes him out to be, and a fundamentalist group, the Party of God, has been sending him threatening messages.

Critic Lee Child described The Scent of Blood: "A fresh new take on a classic structure--like hearing a twelve-bar blues played by a great new talent."

We don't know the real name of this great new talent because Raymond Miller is a non de plume. I wish did, but more important, I wish the next case was solved and ready for publication.

Armchair Interviews says: If you loved the old-style crime noir, and just good writing, this is for you.

Very useful for students of tissue engineering. The suthors extract fundamental principles from their vast knowledge of laboratory and clinical data. The book is well organized and provides a rigorous treatment of all aspects of vascular graft design. As a bonus, it is also enjoyable to read.

A Must for Biomedical Engineering Personnel!

Review Date: 1999-12-06
This book explores the basic biology, clinical background and pathology of synthetic vascular graft failure, and discusses new approaches that have occurred in vascular tissue engineering over the last few decades.

It is a must for researchers in this field, who will find a large amount of useful information in the book, and will also be able to learn from the experiences of those who have been working for decades on the development of prosthetic vascular grafts. The editors have made significant contributions to the development of vascular prosthetic grafts, and in fact the chapters written by each of these two are some of the best in the book. No book can serve the needs of everyone, and because of its intense and expanded look at the historical perspectives of this dynamic field, this book provides a richness from which everyone, regardless of the aspect of biomedical engineering they study, can benefit.
