Designed for people who are new to primary biliary cirrhosis, this sourcebook has been created for patients who have decided
to make education and Internet-based research an integral part of the treatment process. Although it gives information useful
to doctors, caregivers and other health professionals, it is designed for patients who are less familiar or are new to the
Internet as a medical research tool. It tells the reader where and how to look for information covering virtually all topics
related to primary biliary cirrhosis, from the essentials to the most advanced areas of research. The title of this book includes
the word official. This reflects the fact that the sourcebook draws from public, academic, government, and peer-reviewed research.
Selected readings from various agencies are compiled and reproduced to give you some of the latest official information available
to date on primary biliary cirrhosis. Following an introductory chapter, the sourcebook is organized into three parts. PART
I: THE ESSENTIALS; Chapter 1. The Essentials on Primary Biliary Cirrhosis: Guidelines; Chapter 2. Seeking Guidance; Chapter
3. Clinical Trials and Primary Biliary Cirrhosis; PART II: ADDITIONAL RESOURCES AND ADVANCED MATERIAL; Chapter 4. Studies
on Primary Biliary Cirrhosis; Chapter 5. Patents on Primary Biliary Cirrhosis; Chapter 6. Books on Primary Biliary Cirrhosis;
Chapter 7. Multimedia on Primary Biliary Cirrhosis; Chapter 8. Periodicals and News on Primary Biliary Cirrhosis; Chapter
9. Physician Guidelines and Databases; Chapter 10. Dissertations on Primary Biliary Cirrhosis; PART III. APPENDICES; Appendix
A. Researching Your Medications; Appendix B. Researching Alternative Medicine; Appendix C. Researching Nutrition; Appendix
D. Finding Medical Libraries; Appendix E. Your Rights and Insurance; ONLINE GLOSSARIES; PRIMARY BILIARY CIRRHOSIS GLOSSARY;
INDEX. Related topics include: Cholangiolitic biliary cirrhosis, Hanot syndrome, Hypertrophic cirrhosis of Hanot.

Note: This book is not written by a doctor.
This is both a good and a bad thing.
The good part is that it is readable. It is very informative.
It has many good points and seems well researched.
The author is a very good writer, and can guide us through the phases of Cirrhosis.
The bad part is that the book is not written by doctors -- so is not really a manual for medical diagnosis. It is not really a book for medical treatment.
Definitely seek the assistance of a Liver Specialist.
It is also written in 2006 -- so may not be current with the most recent medical treatments available.
Overall, this is a good book to have if you or a loved one is diagnosed with Cirrhosis.

Since I have been recently diagnosed with cirrhosis I found the book to be
excellent, positive and very informative, especially since there isn't
much information out there and I hadn't actually seen a Dr. an appointment
was made. I had several symptoms and I was able to be prepared for what
was ahead. Thankyou Mr Dickerson and I wish good health to you now & in the
future!

This book is written for those who are newly diagnosed with cirrhosis as well as those who may be headed that way. It's also
an excellent book for the family and other loved ones of the liver patient. Cirrhosis can be caused by hepatitis B, hepatitis
C, autoimmune hepatitis, alcoholism, NASH, certain medications, and other diseases. This book is highly recommended for those
who want to know more about what cirrhosis is, its symptoms, its prognosis, and what transplant entails.
A very good first step

This book gave a lot of good information and insight on things to ask. I highly recommend it - not just for the patient but
for the family too.
