I loved "Dark Horse" so I had to read Doug Richardson's latest and I wasn't disappointed. It was a long story but it kept me turning pages furiously to see what would come next. For the most part the characters were good, but lacked full development. The plot was a little wild, but having said that; I loved the way the book flowed and kept me rapt. The ending was a little soft for this intense of a plot--but I enjoyed it anyway.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It combined the excellent read of a Grisham or Patterson with a higher level plot. The ending in this book is among the most satisfying I've ever read. Too often, an author will keep me excited until the last 50 or so pages, but then plod toward a predictable ending. This one, however, brings things to a close with some very well thought out plot twists. Outstanding.

This is one the best books I have had the joy of ever reading. You will pick your jaw up off of the floor. Be ready to stay up all night - the characters are riveting and complex. The storyline, while on the brink of unreal is edgy enough to make you think twice. DO NOT PASS THIS BOOK UP> I will purchase anything this man writes, sight unseen.

The plot was ingenious yet remained realistic. The characters were multi-faceted and interesting, what made them realistic was their imperfections. A fantastic book, True Believers kept me on the edge of my seat until the last page. I anxiously await the next offering from Doug Richardson.

Doug Richardson is a masterful storyteller!

"True Believers" is neatly woven and compelling with a fabric populated by real people caught up in lives and a political arena that is all too real...

As an avid reader and a (screen/t.v.) writer for over twenty years "True Belivers" captured my attention totally. I couldn't put it down until I finished the last page.

It is a taut, suspenseful rollercoaster ride, filled with people and a political arena that are so well etched you're hooked from page one; pulled into lives that smack with such reality you forget that you're reading a book and become a voyeur watching characters grow and change as they reveal intimate moments.

It was like peeling a grape. Each layered chapter brought forth the bitter-sweetness of life and left you with an aftertaste for more long after the book is finished.

Filled with such subtlety and foreshadowing, the book demands a second read, so that one can catch the almost visceral nuances missed in the first enthralling pass.

As both an author and reader of fiction, I was impressed with "the Yoni Experiments". Maybe it is because I have always enjoyed a book that could hold my attention and make me think at the same time. In a nutshell, the characters are believable and yet a little out of the ordinary and the story line unique. Give this book a try.
The Christian fiction book that I have written main story theme is about ten years in the life of a little girl who was "chosen by God" to be the next Madonna in the second coming of Christ. Yes it has cloning in it.

The Yoni Experiments may be fiction for the moment, but rapid scientific advancements may soon transform it into fact. It is a fascinating tale where science redefines terms like "family" and "children." This story moves along at a steady pace and builds to an exciting and thoughtful conclusion.

A wonderful new conception myth

Review Date: 2000-01-05
Karen Propp, a poet, teacher, and, with the help of infertility treatment, the mother of a young son, set out to write *The Pregnancy Project: Encounteers With Reproductive Technology*, in part to create "a new conception myth," but she's done much more: written a memoir that manages to be simultaneously intimate and discreet, a generous description of her own difficult, and ultimately successful quest to have a child via the miracles and dehumanizing horrors of infertility treatment. Her clarity, honesty, capacity to combine feeling and analysis, as well as her thorough explanations of the technology (these not for the faint of heart) are a gift to people struggling with infertility, and to those who love and care for them. Propp writes, "In years to come, when we tell our children the story of how they got here, the petri dish and the ultrasound will be coequal with the birds and the bees." This beautifully written book will be one of the important sources of that new story.

I found this book very fine and very moving. While in infertility treatment, I chose my reading material carefully. I wanted nothing that would discourage me or make me depressed. The Pregnancy Project helped me get through treatment with its positive spin. I compare it to The Empty Lap and A Little Pregnant. Thank you, Karen.

This book is a must for any owner or manager of an equine breeding facility. It is technical, but relatively easy to read and complete. Whether you're an expert whose been in the business for years or a novice just getting started, this is the primer you've been looking for. It's one you'll want to keep handy for looking up answers to new questions or reviewing the answers to your old ones. Kudos to the author for a job well done. It's worth noting that no matter what breed of horses you work with, you will still find this reference invaluable.

Potent information for the impotent

Review Date: 2003-07-18
I've been shooting blanks for years.

Doctor's think it has something to do with my experimentations with hallucinogenic drugs when I was in college, but I think it's related to my strong preference for wearing tighty-whiteys. Regardless of the exact cause, my wife and I have saved a fortune by not having to buy contraception. The downside is that I'm unable to conceive a child.

We looked into adoption, but my wife's sketchy past pretty much eliminated any chance of that happening. Our neighbors offered to give us their next child, but we were afraid they'd want to come over every day and see him/her.

Then my boss recommended, "Family Building Through Egg and Sperm Donation". He was also having difficulties producing fertile sperm, so he suggested that I read the book (and not just look at the pictures).

My wife and I have always been open to new ways of making babies, so the concept of egg and sperm donation was exciting to us. I admit that this was the first time we'd heard of egg and sperm donation - and we were originally scared off by the concept - but once we understood the legal, medical and ethical ramifications, we were ready to pick a donor.

Contrary to what people might say, there is no shame in being infertile. I was teased incessantly at work for having ineffective sperm, but you can imagine the look on my coworkers' faces, when 10 months later, "Mr. Sterile" (me) showed off his healthy baby girl.

While not for everyone, I recommend, "Family Building Through Egg and Sperm Donation" to any couple having trouble fertilizing.

"Lethal Secrets" takes a long-range view of donor insemination by interviewing donor offspring, donors and parents years after the fact. Taking a hard look at the ramifications of secrecy and donor insemination is not the norm, nor is advocating for openness. Many, if not most, doctors, patients and sperm banks continue to advocate for secrecy, blithely ignoring the psychological dangers of this widespread practice. Baran and Pannor are ahead of their time. They support donor insemination, yet argue persuasively for openness: not only is it every child's right to know the truth of his or her genetic heritage, it is healthier for the parents and the donors, as well. If you are considering using donor insemination or even donor egg to have a child, this book is invaluable. I only wish the authors would write a book specifically about the psychological aspects of using donor egg

Great fun for a serious endeavor

The title gives away the lighthearted feel of this book. I ordered several books at once, and this was by far the most 'fun' to read. There are better books for understanding the 'issues' involved in choosing to become a single mother, but this one is a great addition to your collection so that you might remember why it is that you are considering this choice in the first place. Ms. Sloan's down to earth treatment, and qualitative collection of data (rather than the very quantitative approach of much of the rest of the data on the subject) are a respit from the gruelling task of deciding whether this is the right path for you. At the same time, there is information (qualitative data, as I mentioned before) in this book that isn't really in the other must-reads on the subject... primarily the answers to "How might this make me feel?", "How do others respond to issues like rejection or a child's daddy questions?", and even "Is anyone else weirded out by concieving in a doctors office with annonymous sperm that costs more than a trip to Disney World for a family of four?" My advice: read 'Knock Yourself Up', then read Mattes and Morrissette for the details and statistics you'll need to make the final decision and arm yourself for the journey.

Very cute and eased some of my concerns....

This book is easy to read, entertaining, and informative without being preachy (for the most part). I felt that a couple of issues were sort of beaten to death, most notably the various hardships of not having a parenting partner. But what I took from the book is invaluable - that no matter what happens, I can handle it, because lots of other women have handled all kinds of problems before me. At first I was freaked out by all the things that can go wrong, but I ended up feeling inspired and more ready to deal with whatever happens with my situation. I would recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about bringing a child into the world via donor insemination.

This book was wonderful. It was very informative but also had a personal feel that helped me really relate to the topic and the author. Unlike many related books I have read, this one was not dry and boring. Not only was it enjoyable to read, I like that it focused on being a single mother, not a couple.

Totally a worthwhile read, even if this choice isn't on your table

This book is part memoir, part "how-to", with the bits in between filled in with the stories of other single mothers by choice (SMCs) that the author talked to.

I'm really glad that the author included all of the stories and quotes from interviewing other SMCs, since I think it really helped give the book a more well-rounded feeling. The "how-to" bits are really good places to start thinking, but probably not enough detail for someone to actually use for decision-making and taking steps -- that said, I have a feeling that any book that tried to do this would be out-of-date before it reached the shelves, there's just too much that is changing too quickly.

Totally a worthwhile book to read, even if this isn't a choice on your table.

Somehow this novel showed up in a box of books that I bought at a yard sale. I do not remember ever seeing this book before I found it in the box. That was a lucky find for me. I do not read "porn", or "hard erotica", and when I saw the name, I was concerned it may be Too hot for me. I thought "oh, Dear", but when I looked through the book my heart melted for the heroine. This book has Hot intimacy, but it is not erotica. As a mother who dearly loves children I could understand Jenna's desire for a child. I can also understand wanting the best man to father her child. I enjoyed this book.(Possible Spoiler) I am a sucker for happy endings, and I found the conclusion of this story to be perfect. The physical attraction was there, and how the couple work out the logistics of conception time is funny, heart warming, and of course, sexy. This is a great beach read, or a fun way to pass time on a plane. I enjoyed this book, and I'm glad I "found" it! ;>)

I LOVE this book. My *only* complaint is that the book is too short. I love the premise, I love the plot progression, I love the characters, I love the chemistry...I love it all. I just wish it were about 150 pages longer! I want to see the relationship develop and I want to see the baby!

This is a fairy tale. It's a feel-good story about falling in love and finding what you really want in life, and the baby element only adds to the charm. It's a light read that will leave you smiling. A great beach book or "in-between" read.

Read this. You won't be sorry. This is my first Delinsky read and a definite keeper.

Good, but could be better

This is my first Delinsky book, and I must say this is not gonna be my last!

Love the story, especially when the quest for a baby becomes a personal issue (instead of artificial insemination, it's 'sexual intercourse or nothing', according to the main hero).

The thing is, I find it hard to really like Spencer Smith as a man. For a 41-yr-old widely traveled, experienced man, he sure behaves like someone in his 20s. If not because of the age, Spencer is just fine, but since he's way beyond his 30s, he should BEHAVE like one. They way he talks, the way he thinks - he seems immature, and, considering this, I wonder why Jenna McCue really wants HIM to be the 'sperm donor' when she could've had her pick of OTHER men with MORE attributes.

So, that's why I give this only 4 stars. Otherwise, the story is very entertaining.

Great read!

It's a very sweet, cute story about falling in love with your best friend's older brother from Jenna's perspective, or your little sister's best friend from Spence's perspective. From the product description and reviews I've read, I expected to be very chauvinistic and read like an infertility guidebpook or a sex manual, but it wasn't like that at all. What moved me was the genuine affection and respect they showed each other as this conflict played itself out. And they taught each other valuable and much-needed lessons about life. Spence learned to settle down and life isn't all about ambitious adventures, and Jenna learned to let fun and love in and that life isn't all about business.

All first-timers should have a copy of this book. It helped me have a relatively painless, sucessful breeding experience. My best advice other than getting this book, is to know who you are getting your semen from because there are a lot of semen "wranglers" out there who aren't the best handlers.

I loved this book. I found it very easy to read and understand. I considered NOT buying it due to a review from someone else who said the Terminology was hard to understand. But, I am so glad I did not listen to that review. The author literally took me by the hand and said OK this is what you do and walked me through the whole process. She gave me great worksheets to assist me. I cannot say enough! This book uses kindergarten language for a tough topic. Superb!

Excellent Resource For Mare Owners

As a mare and stallion owner, this book is a great resource for making sure both my mares, and outside mares have a great experience. There is some great information on making sure the mare is properly prepared, and what to expect, which as a stallion owner I am glad to see, as I have to explain to mare owners a lot of this.
However, other than one very short section on collection, there is little information for stallion owners.
The inforemation on costs, contracts, and supplies were very informative, and I will keep this book handy throughout the breeding season.
If you are a mare owner planning to breed, get this book!! If you are a stallion owner just starting out, this will be a great resource.
