I found this book on my own, after many trips to psych. evaluations, counseling, parent child interventions, etc., with the
"best" hospitals and doctors in our area. None of them ever diagnosed our daughter with FAE. Once I read this book, I went
back to those reports and it was glaringly easy to see all of the comments that pointed to FASD but were never linked to FASD.
Because I was armed with examples and knowledge I was able to educate the doctors, teachers, psychologists, therapists, social
workers and so on. My daughter got her diagnosis (along with her younger biological brother) and is now receiving the services
the school district denied her because her IQ was a mere 7 points above that of a developmentally delayed level and she didn't
have a diagnosis at the time of denial. God Bless Bonnie's courage, determination, love, hope and her neverending faith that
we are exactly where we need to be right at this very moment with our children exactly as they are right now. AMAZING!
Great Read!

Bonnie Buxton's book, Damaged Angels, will ring true to anyone who has lived the life of dealing with a child who looks normal,
but has "disconnects" in their life. After adopting "a visible child with an invisible disability" I valued reading about
Bonnie's experiences with her daughter,Collette. Her up-to-date overview of the most current research on FASD was helpful
in my journey with my daughter. I appreciated her openness and vulnerability in describing her mothering experiences.
I think every social worker should be required to read this book as part of their training. As a mother in distress, this book was a beacon in the fog for me.

Bonnie Buxton does an amazing job in this book of thoroughly explaining the damage that prenatal alcohol exposure does to
an unborn child's brain and how that plays out in real-life examples, without painting a picture that is dark and hopeless.
We get to see these real families working hard to make good lives for their children, feel their struggles, grieve in their
failures and celebrate in their successes. This is a beautiful book full of life and hope.

Dr. Streissguth is one of the pioneers in the identification and treatment of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and the entire spectrum
of congenital damage arising from in-utero exposure to alcohol. 25 years after the identification of this common and devastating
disability, most efforts in the academic community still focus on definition and diagnosis, with relatively little attention
paid to treatment. Dr. Streissguth stands atop the heap in extending her basic science research into the actual lives of
affected individuals, their families, and the communities in which they live. I consider her the foremost authority in the
academic community on exploring pragmatic options for helping affected individuals, families, and community.
This little volume is jam packed with useful information.

After reading Dr. Streissguth's book on fetal alcohol syndrome, I feel this book should be given to every parent or caretaker
who receives this diagnosis about their child. This is the most thorough book I have found on this subject. Dr. Streissguth's
knowledge in this area is so extensive and her book offers a step by step approach and guidelines on what you will need
to know to in raising a child with FAS. I truly recommend her book and am so grateful for her insights.

Dr. Streissguth's Book is the best explanation of the effects of alcohol on the unborn child, that I have ever found. For
years, I did not know what was wrong with the beautiful little girl that my husband and I adopted. Twenty-seven doctors,
psychologists, psychiatrists, school counsellors, guidance counsellors, religious leaders, police or addictions counsellors
over the past 16 years never once, suggested that FAS/E was the problem. For every person in those positions dealing with
troubled children, "Fetal Alchohol Syndrome: A Guide for Families and Coommunities" should be compulsory reading!
I cried over and over while I read the book when I saw how my community, my family and I had let my daughter down, because we didn't know. I wrote to Dr. Streissguth and thanked her personally, and I am doing my best to help my daughter and to educate others, so no one has to fail their child the way we did. Thank you again, Dr. Streissguth!

The book is written in simple terms and yet a very in depth about FAS. The persons who contributed to subject of this book
are not only knowledgeable about FAS, but very sincere and sensitive. Through the whole book I could tell they really care
about all the medical issues affected by FAS. I especially like the questions at the beginning of each chapter, because they
really help you understand all the issues relating to FAS. I have become more conscious and interested in all the issues
discussed in this great book since I read it. This is not only a government issue,or a community issue, but a personal issue.
Someone I know or love is being affected in some area of their lives from this very illnesses. I was especially moved to
read about babies born with addictions. Alot of the information on this subject was new to me. I have not only been enlightened
by this book, but moved to the point I now realize I must help do something for this great cause. I recomme! nd this book
not only to those in medical or counseling fields, but especially to ministers and christians who desire to extend their hand
of christian brotherhood within their community. The Church has the power and easiest excess to help the community. I encourage
them to read this great book.

I have two beautiful children and a hard working husband. I live in Paradise. Where every day is a vacation. So what if my
kids are a little differnt from everybody else????? ADD ODD ADHD,FAS FAE,it is all a crock.I drank and smoked the whole time
I was pregnant with both my kids, and used the whole time I was pergnant with my first kid. How a child acts has nothing
to do with what I did or didn't do!!!! Kids will be kids, and a good parent knows their own childs limitations. This book
is a total waste of time and I don't know why my family wanted me to read it. I didn't get past page two. This book is only
for complete losers!!!!! So what if the facts line up and my kids really do have FAS like my husband says, they'll never prove
it.

This book will completely change not only how you think of FAS, but how you think of the entire medical professional and how
you think about "risk."
It is amazingly well researched. Armstrong had to do a lot of legwork to compile all these studies on FAS and FAE, as well as delve into historical research to find out drinking patterns before FAS was "discovered." Her writing style is very clear and accessible.
After reading this book, I could not stop talking about it and recommending it to everyone I know.
