This book was about a family that needed a babysitter for a whole summer. Lucas, one of the older brothers, didn't want a babysitter. He wanted to be able to do what he wanted with no people around to boss him around. When the babysitter got here from France, Lucas knew he wasn't going to like her. After a few days Lucas was tired of having somone around all the time. He played bad tricks and blamed them on Genevieve (the babysitter)to get her fired. Then Lucas finds out that all Geniveve is doing is helping his mom. Do you think Lucas will end up getting along with her?
I loved reading this book because Ilike the way the author set up the story and how they had a babysitter come over the summer vacation. Also, I enjoyed the different events going on while Genevieve is babysitting over the summer. I recommend to students in at least fourth grade because younger children might not understand the book.

A dose of something real

As one of the first people to purchase it online, I have to say that it was money well-spent. I devoured it on a plane ride back from Chicago.

What I appreciated about the writing was how real the scenes at home and family interactions felt (to me). Like Geneva, I remember being a young teenager and trying to figure out what the heck to say to a boy on the phone. And I remember how a sour mood at the dinner table would ruin the experience. Being 15 was difficult. Period.

I also thought Nick was portrayed as an incredibly loveable guy. He just happened to make some poor choices, but overall he wanted so badly to do the right thing. Isn't that how many people are? I appreciated that Geneva and Nick were illustrated as real human beings - with all the "warts" that made them unique. Like them, I remember being so happy and then so depressed and then SO happy again for the smallest of reasons. Family life in those years was an emotional roller coaster, but as Linda Knapp illustrates, an undercurrent of love and consistency kept us upright most of the time.

This is a real gem of a book.

A Fun Book to Read

Sara Dawson is a girl with a problem, she has no mother, but that is a problem she intends to fix. Disguising herself as her father, Sara begins searching for a mother through an online dating site. At first, she has little success, but when Ellen Stephens responds, things couldn't be better. Ellen owns a café and pastry shop and is everything that Sara could possibly want in a mother. The two of them become fast friends and Sara begins spending more and more time in Ellen's café, but that isn't enough. Sara won't be happy until she brings Ellen and her father together. Her plan is simple. Lock them in the school basement and they are sure to realize how perfect they are for each other, but when her plan fails and Ellen agrees to marry Rob instead of Sara's Dad, Sara must find another way to bring them together or lose her ideal Mom forever.

This was a fun book to read. It is told primarily from Sara's point of view. Sara comes across as very confident and she's afraid of nothing. She knows what she wants and thinks she knows how to get it. It is one of my favorites, so if you want my opinion, I think you should buy it.

This was an awesome book! In order for it to make sense, you have to read all the other books in the series first, though. What made it so good? First of all, it was very up to date. This book showed how violence is becoming very present in the world. Even the small town Nikki lives experiences threats and violence in the school. This added both a thrilling dimension as well as the feeling that the author is not ignoring modern problems. Second, the reader finally gets to meet T.J, the father of Nikki's baby. He was totally different than I expected, and Nikki's struggles with how to face- and forgive- him were very obvious. Finally, Nikki has to determine, or rather redefine, her relationship with Jeff. When her grandparents become concerned about them, and her grades and other activities begin to reflect how she chooses her priorities, it's clear that she has to change something. I don't know if this is the last book in the series or not, but if it is, it is a very good conclusion when everything comes together at the end. However, a sequel wouldn't be completely impossible. There's still more that could be written about Jeff, and it would be nice to hear from T.J. again, then there's Hollis...

I couldn't find a flaw in this book. Over the entire series the reader becomes very close to Nikki and can feel her trouble. It's a wonderful series to read, and one I would highly recommend to any teenage girl who loves to read.

This book is very well written, has a great story line with a great ending and many different lessons to be learned by the reader. I would recommend this book to all ages.

An Amazing Story

Review Date: 2006-11-04
It was a long, soulful and emotionally troubling journey for the author in searching out and eventually finding the two sisters given up for adoption at birth. This is one woman's journey in persistence and determination, not only in finding her full blood sisters but gently integrating them into her life and the family they had not known before.
After the astounding revelation of their dying mother that there were two more members of their family `out there somewhere', the process of discovering and unifying begins. Each of the many family members is explored as they deal with the many levels of deep and complex emotions arising out of such an incredible life challenge. Fears, excitement, joy, happiness, trepidation and apprehensions of siblings meeting for the first time are examined thoughtfully, eventually encompassing extended family members and biological father and grandparents.
For children of adoption, this is a must read. For general interest, this is an amazing and unlikely story of a family brought together over the chasm of time, and gradually cemented in love.
