I stumbled upon this book and fell in love with this less than typical family. The story revolves around a loving and committed gay couple who use a surrogate to have a child. They end up with a beautiful set of twin girls born prematurely. By the second chapter I was rooting for them at every page. This book may be for those of us with open minds about non-traditional families, but it is sweet and real and just a lot of fun.

Applied Agile Oriented Book

Review Date: 2008-08-05
The book is really useful for an agile beginner who knows a little about the practices and wants to apply them to his/her project. The book does not explain the practices in details but it tell you when and how the practice is applicable on different scenarios. The book takes the pattern approach to help you choose agile adoption strategy. The word pattern seamed to me a bit complicated but the way the book describes it made it really easy. One other thing that I liked about this book is it explains the reasoning and the benefits of the agile methodology. It helps you understand how to be really agile and adopt to real life situation. It really explains the difference between agile and any other methodology. It shows how flexible it is, as it lets you pick and choose the practices that will make you achieve your business driven goals. This book shows how to pick and choose your practices and provide a way of measuring your success. It's a quick read too.

This book was referred by a friend from RESOLVE. I found this book an easy way to get up to speed on how to deal with infertilty. While every situation is different, I found something to relate to in each story, even when the circumstances were different than mine. It helped me deal with alot of the emotional things that I was going through and personally helped me move to the next step. For me it was adoption. Although this has been and still is an emotional rollercoaster, at least I feel that I can make an intelligent choice and know all the different options. It was also comforting that these woman were successful and it gave me hope. (something that none of the doctors gave me)

I tend to gravitate toward the children's adoption related books that feature animals as main characters since it transcends gender and ethnicity. I LOVE this book. It drives home the message of unconditional love and the unique role every family member has in making the family a "whole." If you are looking for a great gift for new adoptive parents this is a must!

Amazon book review from: Verification Methodology Manual for SystemVerilog
By Malcolm L. Franklin -
This (Janik's VMM) is a very good book. However, as a newcomer to VMM, I initially got more out of "A Pragmatic Approach to VMM Adoption" by Cohen, Venkataramanan and Kumari. I use both books extensively. Since reading "A Pragmatic Approach", Bergeron's book is much more understandable and useful.

As a parent, I found this book informative and helpful. The book empowers us to protect our precious children from sexual predators. It is well organized and easy to read. Every parent should read it even though I know we are all busy. Unfortunately, the predators count on our lack of awareness to the risk of child sexual abuse. This book directly deals with the issue of abuse and it is proactive in that it encourages "non-abusers" to be aware of and provide protection against child sexual abuse. I commend the author for sharing this information with us.

A Hidden Treasure Found

This is one of the three novels that Chesnutt wrote late in his career that were rejected by the publishers. The publishers apparently found THE QUARRY too controversial and in deed it is. The basic story line has been done before - the Puddin Head Wilson theme that John Twain wrote of where a man is raised as black but is indeed white. Chesnutt varies the theme and while telling the story of Donald Glover also tells the story of hypocricy in American life. For those who did not like Chesnutt's early stories that relied heavily on dialect and folk tales, I would urge them to try his later works. I recently read THE COLONEL'S DREAM which is an excellent study of the New South. The Quarry is an excellent view of America in the early part of the 20th Century and perhaps today.

A genealogist's delight

Review Date: 2003-04-16
Norman Carson's saga is beautifully written; I would expect no less from a college English professor. His being, in addition, a Presbyterian minister did not prevent him from manipulating the beauracracy of officialdom in order to pursue the quest for his biologic family. The book has universal appeal but will touch the hearts especially of families with adopted children and the heads of budding genealogists.
