Mrs. Weinfeld is what I call a "natural writer." Her characters ring true, her stories are realistic and she has a real ear for dialogue. Best of all, the adoption aspect of this book is so positive and uplifting. If you are looking for a "frum" book for your children, this is the book for you. I highly recommend this title and I also loved her book, Open House. As you can tell, I am a fan.

More than 1.50 million children in the United States are adopted. These include more than 20,000 international adoptions every year. While 64% of these adoptions are girls and 36% are boys, nearly half of all international adopted children are infants, and 90% of international adoptees being less than five years old. Featuring an essay by Melissa Fay Greene, "Now We Are One: Faces of International Adoption" is a compendium of photographs by Michael Wilson with a bit of informational text by Cincinnati Post columnist David Wecker. The focus is on the stories and images of ordinary families in Cincinnati, Ohio. Fifteen families demonstrate the reality of American families adopting children from other countries and is a far cry from the circus atmosphere of some recent Hollywood celebrity foreign adoptions. Here are pictorially documented adoptions that focus on the simple, ordinary ways children from diverse (and sometimes horrific) backgrounds have become integrated as vital and beloved members of their new American families. Highly recommended, especially for anyone considering an international adoption for a family of their own.

This book is written in a very unique and creative way. Using animals to tell the story of adoption is incredible. It allows even small children to begin to understand the meaning of adoption in a positive way. The book is especially helpful if you are a single parent adopting a child. Written from a Christian perspective it also teaches adopted children that God loved and cared about them even before they were born! This is a must read for any family who has been touched by adoption.

One of the best International Adoption books !!!

I have a daughter who we adopted Internationally and while building a home library I have purchased many adoption books. This I believe is one of the best ones I have read / owned. What I like about this book is it could be used for any child adopted Internationally since it has children from infants, toddlers and children even older. Each photo looks like it was perhaps taken from a someone's life book or a favorite parents or child's photo. It also has a page that looks like it could be China, or Vietnam and one of the former USSR / Russia, and children that could be from Africa, Asia or Russia.

The book starts simply with " Everything in life has a begining. Fragrant flowers begin as seeds. So do fresh fruit and towering trees.Your family began with a seed, too. A seed of love planted and nutured in the hearts of two people - your mom and dad!" Your Mom & Dad speaks of your adoptive parents, and only at the end of the book speaks of your birth parents. The book talks about the welcoming home party, the family & friends who came to meet you for the 1st time, of course proud grandparents, the every day things like books, blankets, dinner time, your changing table, baby games, playing in the park with on a sunny day( which is also great for getting rid of jet-lag and adjusting to being back home;) the naps that EVERYONE in the family took! The ending of the book is really nice too! " At night, in the quiet, Mom & Dad carried you off to a bed all your own. They tucked you in safe & snug, and then they prayed for your safety, for your health, and for your future. They gave thanks, too, for the unselfish love that.... across the miles, over land and sea, changed their lives and yours....forever."

I like very much that the author has 3 childeren who where adopted internationally, because they have taken the naps, had the jet-lag and know what we other Intl. adoptive parents have gone through, and the great joy of having a child to love and the thanks and prayers to the parents who gave us the greatest gift that they could not keep.

Pact's BookSource is an outstanding reference guide to fiction and non-fiction books addressing and reflecting the issues of race, race relations, family diversity and cultural diversity. The books are wide-ranging, including items of interest to all who live in late-20th century America. This guide to over 1000 books for children and adults offers synopses, reviews, publication information and ratings. The BookSource is divided into developmental stages, from the youngest among us through school-agers, teen-agers, and adults; within each section, selections are arranged by broad topic: race/culture, adoption and family life, enabling readers to browse through each section and locate a broad range of wonderful books that may either explicitly or implicitly address or reflect these important elements of our lives. There are also three indices at the back, allowing readers to locate books by title, author or theme. Thus, using my own family as an example: to consider some of the social and racial conditions America's facing, I can find provocative and intriguing books on race relations written by some of our foremose public intellectuals; for my younger son, who is Black and is growing up with white parents, I can find board books reflecting children of all hues, interacting with adults who may or may not share the same skin tones. For my older son, who is white, I can find autobiographical accounts written by middle-school children who have grown up in multiracial families. For myself, I can find specialized accounts, written by well-regarded experts, regarding the psychological and cultural challenges encountered by children adopted transracially. And as a mother who wants to fill my house with the most beautiful and diverse books possible, I can browse through the reviews to find marvelous small-press titles I might not find in chain bookstores.
