Chronicle of an Adoption is a thoughtfully written book. This is not a how to; this is a book that tells a story from a very different point of view - a father's. This book will make you laugh, cry and get angry at our governmental system that is charged with the responsibility of caring for our nation's youth. This family was able to adopt a child, at no cost despite the system. There are many ideas presented by Mr. Panem that need further exploration.

If you are thinking about adoption this is a must read. There are many childrewn out there that are in need of a good home. Mr. Panem can point you in the right direction.

If you have already adopted this is a good book to read, and remember what you went through.

Either way, I was impressed with this book. 5 stars.

As owner of the Adoptive Parents of Vietnam mailing list, I am always on the lookout for good information for families on adoption. This book is an excellent resource for those who want to dig into post adoption issues. Clinical and Practice Issues in Adoption, by Victor Groza and Karen Rosenberg, presents seven professional papers on the theory and practice of infant-placed and older adoptions. Procedures and experiences of adoption vary dramatically between children placed at infancy and older children -- this book brings these similarities and differences to our attention, so that we can begin to learn from each experience. The authors have succeeded in providing an well-documented presentation for integration of theory, practice, policy, and research between adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive families. While this book is written for professionals and researchers in the adoption; those with a deep interest in the underpinnings of the adoption process from the professional point of view will find it rewarding. Important issues and concepts for all stages of the adoption are addressed, some of which adoptive parents may not yet be consciously aware, although they very well may influence their family. Clinical and Practice Issues in Adoption provides a solid review of the historical and societal context, ethics, and practice of adoption of infants and older children.

This book shows just some of the challenges faced by intercountry adoptee. It is the stories of young adult adoptees. They have bravely shared their innermost feelings. I have met some of the contributors and I believe that they have all move forward enormously from where they were when they contributed. I can strongly recommend it to all people who have or intend to adopt a child. It doesn't give answers but I do believe that it starts you asking the right questions.

This is the third book in her series. I ended up reading them backwards because I did not realize it was a series. The first book was "Run Away Home", then "Journey Home", then finally this book. After reading through all the stuggles of the characters in the first two books you really come to understand and sympathize with them. It is neat to watch the paths their lives take and watch them overcome their struggles. In this book, Brad is recovering from the loss of his wife and develops a relationship with another doctor at the hospital. However, this doctor has issues of her own to deal with and together they grow and develop a lasting relationship. This is a very good book and I would highly recommend it.

Grace Sandness has done a remarkable job of showing the real heart of real adoptions in her work. This is a must-read for anyone considering adoption, especially if they are considering adopting a child that doesn't "match" their family, isn't the perfect child, or is no longer an infant. Adoptions are a work of heart, and the information families need involves emotions, not just statistics. Grace has the ability to get straight to the heart and soul of adoption with true stories and great insight.

I am a social worker and I have worked with art therapists in the past. I have seen the power of art therapy in helping adopted kids and foster care kids. At the agency where I work, we were always looking for resources on art therapy for our kids, but there was really not much out there. I was thrilled to discover Betts' book. Finally, a book about the arts therapies and adoption and foster care! The book is a great resource and the staff at my agency have really benefited from reading it. It's also been helpful for parents, who are now asking about how to get arts therapy services for their children. I strongly recommend this book for anyone involved in adoption or foster care.

A much-needed shedding of light in dark corners--a classic!

This book should be required reading for anyone who wishes to know the whole truth about adoption. The research is well-done, and the facts are presented in a clear yet passionate journalistic style that illuminates the complex and controversial issues of adoption abuses it explores. Adoption does have a dark side--that for too long has been hidden behind sentimentality, lies, mindless stereotypes, and the travesty of sealed adoption records. I love this book--for the courage of its birthmother author in writing it, and for the honest picture it gives of the less lovely side of one of our last "sacred cows", sealed record adoption. This is an excellent piece of scholarship and investigative journalism that deserves a much wider readership than it has had, both within and outside of the adoption reform movement. I am glad to see it here, and reccomend it to all.

Davy In The Middle is a delightfully entertaining and enthusiastically recommended picturebook about a young rabbit who is fed up with being the middle child. Too big to play hop-on-pop with his little siblings, too small to go hiking with his big brother, but always called upon to do middle-sized chores such as baby sitting, he decides enough is enough and runs to his hideout to sulk. But his family truly loves him, and engineers a surprise to show just how much. Davy In The Middle features whimsical color illustrations by Eve Tharlet and a sympathetic message by author Brigitte Weninger to counter all-too-common middle child blues.
