We have really enjoyed reading this book with a six year old. She keeps asking for it by name.
It is nicely written and follows the life of a stray dog to a new home. It is a great way to teach a child about taking care of pets and rescue. The illustrations add to the wording to create the story.
In addition, proceeds from the book help with animal rescue.

An inspiring story!

I found this book not only entertaining, but well written and informative.
The story surrounds the life of a dog adopted from a shelter. It is uniquely written from the dog's perspective which is captured quite insightfully by the author. Although Boyd Friend's life is whimsical, at times, it is also truthful regarding what an animal may endure when being transitioned from a shelter situation to a loving family. It's a must read for children (and adults!) who are considering making an animal a part of the family. The book also includes important information on animal rescue.

This is a great book for "children" of all ages. Great for children dealing with emotional or acceptance issues but also great book for just normal children to recognize the range of emotions dealt with in life. The dogs and colorful photography get a child's attention and storyline holds their interest. Highly recommended to parents and professionals.

Buddy's Forever Home is an exceptional book for people of all ages. It is well written and tells the loving story of Buddy and his need for a permanent home. I had many emotions while reading the book including sadness, discouragement, excitement and hope. It is a great book for children who are in need of a forever home as well as children who are misunderstood or having a difficult time. The pages for drawing emotions add a meaningful way for children to figure out their feelings and understand various emotions. I highly recommend this book.

This book shows the true compassion, strength, and love of Camille and her whole family. There should be more people like her. This book gives people with or without a child with special needs ways in which they can help children with Down Syndrome or any other disability. I hope that Ms.Geraldi and Ms.Burris would write another book to let us know how her wonderful family is doing.

A masterful feat in telling Caroline's story

God has most assuredly given her a gift for writing. She has accomplished a masterful feat in telling Caroline's story. To be able to deal with the past, reliving the experiences and the emotions that accompanied them with such sensitivity and compassion, is indeed remarkable. The story form, the depth of her insights, and the grace with which she has chosen to reveal the truth combine to make this a book that will bless and enable others who have had similiar experiences. I fell blessed to have been given the opportunity to read her story and to experience the beautiful and deeply spiritual person God has created within her.

A moving adult Fairy Tale.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has struggled with adoption and infertility. Debbi speaks honestly about the ups and downs and ins and outs of both. I appreciated her references to her deep faith in God and how involved He is in her life.

A must-read for anyone touched by adoption/infertility

Review Date: 2008-08-05
This book provides an honest insight into the rollercoaster ride of infertility and adoption, but it's permeated with the hope that can only be found in the Christian faith. This true account is emotional and inspiring, but is as riveting as a fictional novel. It makes a great gift for anyone who has ever struggled with infertility or for anyone celebrating the joy of adoption. Every OB/GYN office and pregnancy center should own a copy.

Beautiful story of adoption and love, and very accurate!

When my husband and I began the process of adopting a baby from China, my mother gave us this book. We loved the story of Bronson and Georgine and their search for God, love, and a child. Barbara Jean Hicks has thoroughly researched the Chinese adoption process, and her facts are accurate. Her honesty about the situation of many women and baby girls in China is very touching. The story is more than an inspirational romance; it is a realistic look at Chinese culture, infertility issues, relationship with God, and what it means to be a family. ---Meredith

Since I was a teenager, I have wanted to adopt. Then, when I went to China as a missionary. Many of my friends worked in the #1 orphanage of the city - a discouraging and sad place. My friends told me stories of children, usually girls, disappearing from the orphanages - the rumour was that they had been thrown over a cliff. I avoided the place like a plague until I was "forced" to go, leading a group of visiting students. My heart was broken by two little ones - a toddling girl, and a premature boy. The little girl, about 2, was all smiles & cuddles. The boy, actually a year old, was the size of a newborn. I held him the entire time I was there. Barbara Jean Hicks has expressed an enormous need through a creatively wonderful tale of seeking God's will in our lives. I hope you will all join me in thanking her and praying that God might use our lives to save just one little one.

Imaginary historical intrigue
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2006-09-20
Catherine is the granddaughter of the Grand Duke of Letzenstein, a very small imaginary country in Europe in 1848. She is summoned from England to be the Grand Duke's heir after the death of his previously appointed heir. His wise, older son is not considered, for his father perceives him to be a threat to his authority. Catherine is intended to be a pawn in the game for power, but she understands that all is not right, and becomes active in the intrigue at the palace.

The book was written to give an idea of European politics at this time, but on a smaller scale so as to be more easily understood by younger readers. Although Letzenstein is imaginary, it is set in a historical time frame, as well as actually seeming like part of Europe. Catherine asks questions of the princess of another small, imaginary country. The princess says she must marry the heir of the Grand Duke, to forge an alliance between the countries. Did she like the Grand Duke's son that died, Catherine asks. She was puzzled by the response. No, the princess did not like him, but it did not matter, because the alliance was more important.

Despite ideas you may get from the title, this is not a fantasy. The title comes from a gift the prince gives to Catherine, a crystal globe with a castle inside; when she turned the ball she saw a snowstorm in over the castle, which settled after she put it down. The title is appropriate to the rest of the book because of the political turmoil in Letzenstein that winter.

The story never lags for interest, and once I opened it, I had to finish it the same night. Now I can't wait the get the other three in the series.

After clearing his name in the murder of his deaf little sister, 18-year-old Matt McKendrick has finally gotten his life back on track. He's made some close friends, including the four uniquely quirky and hilarious Schuyler siblings, and bonded with his adoptive family, that of the LAPD lieutenant who helped solve the case. Now, Matt's just graduated from high school and is looking forward to one last carefree summer before embarking upon the next phase of his life.

But first, Matt's got to face the ghosts and demons of his past. His childhood best friend Gary begs him to come home to Idaho and help work at a ranch...the one where he grew up. Putting aside his discomfort, Matt decides to take Gary up on the offer, taking Meg and Will Schuyler along with him.

As the trio learn just how hard running a guest ranch can be, Matt deals with the unresolved issues he left behind at age 15, when his parents died in a car crash and he fled for Los Angeles with little Katie. By the time the summer winds down, Matt discovers it's possible to live fully in the present, while knowing that those who are gone are still with him.

This is the fourth of four books.

This is one of Mrs. Miller's best, the fourth and final book in the McKendrick series. Matt exorcises his demons and returns to work on his parents ranch. Meg and Will tag along, and Matt learns some very valuable lessons about life and having faith in other people. This is an awesome read on it's own, but it is better if you read "The Truth Trap", "Aren't you the one who..?" and "Losers and Winners" first. All of these books are wonderful stories that make you laugh and cry. Mrs. Miller is such an awesome writer; you can feel Matt's heartache, confusion and elation as if you are living it.

I recommend this book to families everywhere who wish to tell a young child a story about love, trust, and the value of believing in your hopes, dreams and wishes. "Dasher Gets Adopted" follows the adventures of a young Greyhound dog who is adopted by a loving family. While trying to adjust to her new surroundings and family, Dasher makes mistakes, feels guilty and is sometimes afraid of what will happen to her. However, her new family doesn't scold her or make her feel guilty. They teach her about her new surroundings, and let her feel their love through patience and example. Trying to "fit in" to any new circumstance can be just as scarey for a young child, as it is for an adult.

Greyhounds, like young children, are fast on their feet, especially when they are headed into a dangerous situation they have no knowledge of. When an open door presents itself, Dasher enters an unprotected world. Will she survive?

You must read the ending to this wonderful story to embrace the full meaning of one family's love. I trust that you will see many of your own life's experiences showcased in this precious book.

A lighthearted story with deep inner meaning. I highly recommend "Dasher Gets Adopted." It can help a child understand self-worth, expectations, disappointments, victory, trust and love.
