This book addresses many relevant aspects, provides information on interventions on several levels (i.e. parent training,
school interventions), and addresses the challenges often faced in intervention implementation. It is well written and well
organized, and clarifies information with tables and diagrams. Most importantly, the information is empirically based. This
book would be helpful to anyone preparing for or serving in a profession that serves children or families. It would also
be helpful for parents.

Any ideas supporting an end to the cycle of violence and discrimination in our teen population developed by these authors
is a guarantee of a resource that is valuable and effective. The activities, excercises and information presented in this
book seek to encourage teachers, parents and counselors of teens and the teens themselves to look into their own experiences
and enlighten and expose their own potentially violent and discriminative attitudes. By acknowledging, exploring and identifying
their own biases each person becomes a critical thinker capable of reading between the lines of human behavior and political
propaganda. The authors explain the cycle of violence as beginning with the oppression and discrimination of people based
on race, religion, gender, class, etc. The frustration and hopelessness felt by the oppressed manifests itself in the form
of a violent act on the individual him or herself or on another person. By using this perspective the authors demonstrate
the importance of not trying to stop violent behavior by encouraging teens to simply act in ways that others deem proper
and simultaneously deny and repress true thoughts and feelings. As an educator I strongly recommend this book for you and
your students and/or children.

I got this book early from Southern New Hampshire University's book store, as I am a student there. Dr. Gunzelmann was one
of my professors and is currently my advisor. I used to be an education major, but recently switched to psychology. While
reading this book, my first thoughts were about how some of the chapters in her book related to me when I was in high school
and middle school. I also remembered other people I knew in school that had some of the problems Dr. Gunzelmann addressed.
In this book,Hidden Dangers: Subtle Signs of Failing Schools, Dr. Gunzelmann addresses many issue that are happening in our schools, some of which people would never have thought of. Dr. Gunzelmann even offers simple ideas to help the children, parents, teachers, just about everyone to change the schools for the better.
The book is straight forward, yet polite, and will make you want to re-read it just to get the information you might have missed, as it made the wheels turn in my head after every single word I read.
Definitly a must read for anyone who has a child, wants a child, and/or is involved in schools in any way, shape, or form.

I never thought the history of epilepsy could be exciting....but Dr. Friedlander's well-written book brings a dynamic essence
to a mysterious and poorly understood disease. His research is painstaking and thorough, yet his verbage is far from dry
and academic. He weaves a true story into a telling masterpiece of medical history. A must-read for any history buff who
wants to understand how society views itself as it struggles to bring to light with one of humankind's great mysteries, that
of epilepsy.
