Adolescents Books

This book was reprinted in 1991 and was a bit dated even then, as it contained little new information (the first edition was published in 1984.) Still, in her profiles of three very different women and the gangs they associate with, Campbell draws a clear picture of the limited choices available to inner-city women. Should be read in tandem with Gini Sikes's "8-Ball Chicks" for an updated view of contemporary gang girls.

Highly recommended for any K-12 Educator who is concerned about glbt issues in their multicultural classrooms. Pallotta - Chiarolli makes it clear that not recognizing homophobia and heterosexism in the K-12 multicultural classroom is the same as endorsing these destructive and oftentimes misunderstood attitudes.

This is a criminology text, but fairly easy to follow. Basic criminology theories are reviewed here, as well as the authors' theories as to why girls have been left out of past juvenile deviant studies. They go on to hypothesize why girls have been overlooked, and point out the crime rate for girls has not "exploded" just recently, but has remained relatively stable with their boy counterparts. A great book to help anyone who works with kids, especially girls, who seem to have few alternatives once within the system.

This is a winner! A very well-rounded, comprehensive book that focuses not only on the physical health, but the spiritual, emotional and relational/social aspects of health. This book is very eye-opening, and helps parents to really look at where their child has strengths, and also where they have weaknesses that can effect their overall health. It is encouraging, practical and very insightful.

Neat outlook on adolescence. Very positive approaches that are well explained, supported by sited studies and easy to apply immediately.

My son is 4 1/2 and has had Separation Anxiety for the last 2 years going to preschool. He crys from the time we drive out our driveway all the way to school which is a 20-25 minute drive. He gets to school and throws up 10-15 minutes into school. This book made me feel like I was not the only stay home mom going through this problem. "When the school bell rings" chapter helped me lots. All preschool directors should read this book too. It would help the parents that go through this problem. Lots of reference books in the back to read to your child too. Thanks for the help!

I bought ...Power Tools for Girls in an effort to educate myself about the things our girls within the city need to know. I read through the book in a day and it made a tremendous difference in my ability to help. The book covered everything from becoming more self-assured, taking care of your body (exercise), developing social skills, finding your place in society, to great fashion tips and learning about various drugs that destroy the body (including hotlines and other resources). I find it being easy to follow for girls 8 and older, and very interactive. Janice has set out to change the way of thinking for everyone interested in bettering themselves, I recommend getting this book as a present, a gift, a reward, or just because. It's well worth it and you can't go wrong...

This book is a great resource for a beginning therapist. It is full of useful examples and patient activities which are explained clearly.

With all the extensive literature published in this area it was refreshing to read such a clear, thought provoking and enjoyable work. Thanks

Group Work is full of information to help with youth experiencing a traumatic death of a friend or family member. Even a chapter on how parents can help their youth. Gave me all the information I needed and then some.
Definitely a great help in planning a workshop or seminar.
