Acute-Care Books

I was inclined to choose this book because as i see it ,it gives every nurse who are in the field of nurse practice to learn and will definitely enjoy reading and obtain more knowledge about diseases,what to do,how to differentiate signs and symptoms,ect.. and do evaluations.

I read this terrific manual while working as a free-lance healthcare writer. I found it comprehensive and thoroughly readable. It clarified the structuring of reimbursement in different venues of care. It's invaluable for any professional who needs an understanding of the post-acute care regulatory environment.

The Murer Group's Post Acute Care Reimbursement Manual is an essential educational and reference resource for hospital administrators. After first reading the manual, I felt I had completed a semester course on the Post Acute Care Continuum. These authors demonstrate talent in converting complex regulation language into "lay-person" terms. The Manual should be required reading for mid-level Management through top-level Administration involved in the post-acute care continuum. Great Job Murer Group!

This book has several serious inaccuracies. Particularly poor is the section on reimbursement for rehabilitation units. I am the nursing director of a rehabilitation unit and am able to spot problem after problem with this chapter. The book's subject matter is a welcome blessing because there is not a lot out there on post-acute reimbursement. However, the book cannot be relied upon for factual information and the interpretation of the law.

I use this book everytime I create a care plan for nursing school. It has nearly every medical diagnosis you could have to develop goals, interventions, rationales, etc. It is mainly for adult med surg units, but can offer some assistant in children and adolescents.

This book is horrible. I would've bought another book altogether. My instructor brought her Mosby "Nursing Diagnosis Handbook" (third and sixth editions) and they were way better. My entire group of students I'm with have a hard time digging for what they are looking for. Our instructor finally looked at the book and said if a student had given her a care plan that was like that in this book, she would've sent it back to them to redo.

It has information in there, but the layout was far too complicated. As a nursing student, I'm pressed for time, and I need something comprehensive yet easy to use. This book will probably meet a ceremonious burning when my new book comes in.

Save your money and buy another book.

Perfect for a student

I am a nursing student and will go for my RN in 14 months. IMO, this book is not good for a student. It is heavily geared toward acute (i.e. hospital settings) but is useless for anything else (psychiatric nursing, nursing home settings, etc.) For example, 'failure to thrive, adult' isn't listed in the index even though it is a valid nursing diagnosis. Most of my fellow students have given up on this one and bought other books.

I had to order this book twice. I kept requesting the Hardcover version and they kept sending me the soft cover one; and everytime I had to return the book I had to pay shipping charges and AMAZON pays only cents of the charges. I had used a gift certificate to buy the item and they only returned the money I had paid and not the gift certificate. I guess this is the last time I buy at AMAZON. POOR service.

This impressive 54-chapter volume is the first comprehensive clinical textbook for both students in acute care nurse practitioner (ACNP) programs and practicing acute care NPs. Its focus is on the core skills, pathophysiology, diagnostic reasoning, and therapeutics that comprise the "meat and potatoes" of the ACNP's daily work. This well-constructed, well-written book deserves a close look. It contains many interesting and unique features (useful tables, for instance) and has particularly strong coverage of cardiology and some surgical specialties. As well as being of obvious interest to NPs and NP educators in adult acute care (for whom it's a "must-have" book), and perhaps physician assistants, the sophistication of the coverage in some areas (cardiovascular medicine is one), would make it an excellent choice for clinical nurse specialists and educators.

A good introduction for the principles of treatments in the community.
It includes a lot a details (maybe to many?)

I cannot recommend this interesting work until non-control
rates are included alongside all control rates and until all the many errata and ambiguities are corrected in future editions.

I would ask your instructor before purchasing this book. This consists of worksheets that outline the text book exactly, you just fill in the blanks. I would nix the idea of the workbook if you are not required to have it for homework assignments.

I was very disappointed when I got this book. There are so many mistakes in this book. It is useless!I would not waste my money. Buy the Barbara Todd book instead.

My personal opinion: This book is full of inaccuracies and I DO NOT RECOMMEND anyone wasting their money on it, whether you're paying $100 or $1.00---AVOID!!! Your money is better served going in your gas tank. My nursing school instructors are horrified by not only the spelling inaccuracies, but the WRONG information that is given throughout the entire book. Buyer be ware!!!

This book was written in 1988. The pictures of machines and products are 15 years old. The price is not justfied by the nostalgia of formulas for mixing Bicarb from dry concentrate!
C.F.Gutch is the value for information there is. Save your money skip this one.
