You may well have had a doctor or a nurse take your pulse. They will almost invariably feel for the radial pulse in your wrist just below your thumb.

In traditional Chinese medicine it is said that your do not have just one pulse at each wrist, but three superficial and three deep pulses on each side, that can accurately reflect the condition of the main organ systems of the body. When performed by an expert, pulse diagnosis can be remarkably accurate, though there is little research evidence to support its use. It takes time and personal instruction to learn to do it well.

The Pulse Classic or Mai Jing, was written around the second century A.D. in the late Han Dynasty. It is the oldest surviving book devoted entirely to the art of pulse diagnosis and is considered to be essential reading for anyone interested in understanding the rationale for and methods of reading the pulse.

As good as this book is, it is not a beginner's text. I strongly recommend starting with the excellent "Secret of Pulse Diagnosis" by Bob Flaws or Giovanni Maciocia's masterful "Diagnosis in Chinese Medicine: A Comprehensive Guide."

This book is an absolute goldmine for anyone wanting to master this skill. You will need a teacher to complete your training, but if you are equipped with the information in this book, your training will proceed by leaps and bounds.

TAKING THE PULSE IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT WAYS OF MAKING A TCM DIAGNOSIS.BUT THE SKILL IS VERY DIFFICULT TO LEARN;THE ONLY WAY TO LEARN IT IS THROUGH PRACTICE. DOCTORS USED TO TAKE THE PULSE MORE OFTEN THAN WE DO NOW.AS WELL AS THE ARTERIES AT THE WRISTS,THEY USED TO CHECK THE PULSES ON THE HEAD,LEGS AND SOME OTHERS PARTS OF THE BODY.THE METHOD OF PULSE TAKING HAS BEEN SIMPLIFIED SINCE THE FIRST BOOK ON THE SUBJECT(MAI JIG - THE CLASSIC BOOK ON PULSE TAKING)WAS PUBLISHED ABOUT 1,600 YEARS AGO.THE AUTHOR,D.WANG SHU-HE,WAS THE FIRST TO RECOMMEND THE NEW METHOD OF PULSE TAKING:DU QU CUEN KOU(ONLY CHECK THE PULSES AT THE WRIST). THIS BOOK IS DIVIDED INTO TEN BOOKS,A LOT OF TIME AND WORK WAS NEEDED TO TRANSLATE THIS BOOK.IT IS SOMETHING THAT YOU SHOULD HAVE IN YOUR COLLECTION IF YOU ARE REALLY INTERESTED IN MAKING DIAGNOSIS.

A must for the serious student.

This is the only English translation available on the Pulse Classic and it is done very well. The many footnotes add richness to one's understanding of the concepts of Chinese medicine. A must for the serious student.

This book is well-written and excellent for teaching reflexology. In fact, this book was a helpful reference for the national certification test for therapeutic massage and bodywork. My study group and I also used the following for the national certification exam:
The Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi
Volume 1, Volume 2 and Volume 3
The last three books were excellent for helping my study group and I prepare for the type of questions asked.

I agree completely with the previous reviewer. This book is truly "The Definitive Practitioner's Manual" as the title states. And if you plan to practice reflexology professionally, this is THE book to own. It's more costly than most of the other reflexology books available, but well worth the investment.

The most comprehensive reflexology book ever!

This book is concise, clearly written and easy to read. It includes the usual topics covered in reflexology books e.g. what is reflexology, history, how it works, zone theory, etc. Plus it covers areas that few other reflexology books have covered before: setting up a practice, consultation procedures, hand reflexology, ear reflexology and face reflexology.

It touches on all aspects of reflexology and health, mental, physical and spiritual. As the title says the definitive guide! A must for every reflexologist.

This book is amazing! I benefit tremendously from practicing this method.

I never actually believe this kind of stuff until I seen my friend rescue from cancers. My aunty died of breast cancer few years ago. If I could have know this method earlier, she wouldn't have died and she would live with me. It made me extremely depress whenever i thought about this. so, I hope this regret won't happen on anyone anymore because there's cure for your disease, as long as you're not born with it!

My uncle suffer from stomach ulcer a long time. He took medicine but still doesn't work, he cured his stomach ulcer by practicing this method. I cured my pimples by practicing this method. I have seen this one guy in the institute, who had to walk with a stick, now could go play tennis after practicing this method. But no pain, no gain, he told me that he practice 2 hours everyday to gain his health back. The master's mother practice this method, her hair gradually turn black.

But nothing comes easy, even though it's free of cost, but it take tremendous amount of effort and determination. It's very tiring in the process, but that's also the reason that it is so powerful. Be openminded! Trust me! it works amazingly.

I practice this method every night too even though i am fairly healthy. I never get sick anymore. there's some field that the modern medical science hasn't investigate yet. Our body does have some potential that we might not realize before. I highly recommend everybody practice this method.

It's 100% safe, very easy to do. If everybody practice this method, no one will get sick, no one will die from cancer or AIDS or any kinds of disease on earth. The master should definitely won Nobel prize, because it's such a ground-breaking discover that improves the health of all human being. Everybody can enjoy health and quality life no matter how much money you have.

It's very popular in Aisa, and has improve thousands of people's life everyday. It has also lots of cases that people rescuing from cancers.

This is the cure for all kinds of disease that modern medical science can't cure. Please tell anyone who suffer from any kinds of disease! the only limitation is that it can't cure the disease that you are born with, but it can cure all kind of disease that develop after birth.

If you suffer from any kind of disease, please try it, trust me, you will see the improvement on your health tremendously. I wouldn't believe it if i didn't have all these personal experience. It really doesn't hurt to try. You can be healthy again and live happily!

Words can't describe how lucky that i think i am to know this Life-Saving Zijiu method. I feel selfish if i don't share this Life-Saving cure for you. Try it! Best wishes for you.

From a girl who benefit tremendously from the Life-Saving Zijiu method.

My insight and experience with ZiJiu is as a scientist and a patient. For years, I worked hard to stay healthy and to build a "nest egg" that would assure a comfortable retirement and cover medical expenses. An unexpected debilitating injury and my subsequent recovery through ZiJiu made me realize that there is an intangible yet valid variable in medicine that, despite ideological prejudices, are worthy of formal exploration and verification. ZiJiu appears to be intrinsically therapeutic and has the potential be an effective, groundbreaking means of preventing a range of diseases including cancer.

This book goes into great detail over this essential trace mineral called selenium. I've bought other books on selenium and this is by far the most detailed, yet it is still very easy to read. I couldn't put this book down once I got it!

Highly Informative!!

This book covered it all! It was thorough, informative, and very well researched. Most importantly, it was easy to read and understand. Like most people, I was misinformed about the power of this supplement, and how it could benefit me. Thanks to Dr. Drake, my family and I now understand how to use selenium to minimize our risk of various cancers.

Selenium can significantly reduce the risk of cancer.

A few years ago the results of a large double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study of selenium supplementation was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The multi-year study showed that people given 200 micrograms of supplemental selenium daily had only HALF the death rate from cancer as people who were given a placebo instead of selenium. No harmful side effects were observed. Has your doctor told you about this study or recommended that you take supplemental selenium to reduce your risk of cancer? I doubt it. He or she may well be unaware of this study; or, if aware, has dismissed it because it involved a simple, readily-available nutrient rather than a new wonder drug. But, if any pharmaceutical drug were available which cut the cancer death rate in half with no harmful side effects -- and none currently is -- you would see ads for it plastered on TV and magazines and your doctor would readily prescribe it for you. So if you want to reduce your risk of cancer with selenium you're probably not going to get the information you need from your doctor. However, you can get it from this book. By the way, perhaps your doctor or a friend may tell you that selenium is toxic. It is in large doses, but it is quite safe in the 200 microgram dosage used in the JAMA study which, as noted above, found no harmful side effects. Cancer is a disease that we all dread, but now you have the power to significantly reduce your risk. Please supply yourself with the information you need to do so.

I find this book to be worthy of being a must referance book to Shiatsu students as well as trained practitioners that are interested in the conection between the practical zen shiatsu and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Photographs & illustrations are particularly helpful and so is the index.

As a student of Chinese medicine and a practitioner of eastern bodywork, I have found this title to be a wealth of information on the extended theory of meridians (Masunaga's model) and the perspective of TCM as it fundamentally applies to the practice of shiatsu This book is what the serious student of shiatsu needs to further their development as a practitioner. Excellent illustrations and photographs with thorough meridian maps and point associations.

The Most Comprehensive Shiatsu Book to Date

In "Shiatsu Theory and Practice" Beresford-Cooke explains in depth the information needed for the serious student of Zen Shiatsu. While there is no substitute for an excellent teacher, Beresford-Cooke's book is the authoratative text. I used this book in conjunction with 108 hours of classroom instruction. The illustrations of the meridians coupled with the description of their associated elements was highly understandable to the student and layperson alike.

In my studies of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shiatsu is an elective for my program. For others it is a center of concentration for their studies. For all of us, our worn and flagged copies of this book speaks well of it.

This book introduces the aspects of Oriental Medicine in a way that is clear, concise and avoids any grandiose language or complicated philosophy. It is accessible through the author`s wish for anyone to be able to read this book, anyone who is interested in learning about health and the importance of our effort to improve ourselves for the benefit of the earth and of all beings.

It is not just for people who know something about Oriental Medicine. It speaks to the reader in a simple tone. It includes some case histories which are very interesting. There are photos of the form which are easy to follow.

There is a website also about this practice www.taoshiatsu.com and a website for the Tao Sangha Community www.taosangha.net. It is a very beautiful website.

I hope others will enjoy this a lot.

This is not really a "how to" book, but more of a philosophic treatise (with a decent amount of the "how to"). More of an experience than a lesson. It provokes thought as well as practice. This will open your mind and practice.

Master Ryokyu Endo is describing the world of Ki (Japanese for energy) in plain language suited for westerners. This book clarifies beyond doubt that Shiatsu (and specifically TAO Shiatsu) is NOT a form of Massage but a real medical system that is successful in healing physical and psychological medical problems, many of which western medicine is unable to deal with. The book describes the medical system while providing the necessary background about eastern medicine and eastern philosophy. It was very interesting for me to realize that Shiatsu is not just a technic of applying pressure on specific points in the body, but it is a heart developed for 5,000 years and transferred from Master to student. Without this heart the technic is meaningless and becomes just another form of massage therapy or physical therapy, with this heart TAO Shiatsu is a very effective method for healing many different types of medical problems. The heart of TAO Shiatsu (and of TAO in general) is discussed in more detail in the newer book published by Master Ryokyu Endo titled "The new shiatsu methid - helping the body to heal itself" (the term "new shiatsu method" in this title is referring to Tao Shiatsu). Together these books cover both the medical system (this is the focus of the first book - "Tao Shiatsu - life medicine for the twenty-first century") and the Author's personal journey into the world of Ki in his 25 years of clinical work (this is the focus of the new book, "the new shiatsu method - helping the body to heal itself").
Any Shiatsu enthusiast or even a person with some interest in eastern medicine MUST own both books. It is also highly recommended to those in search of the real spiritual work done by great masters at the far east.

Dr. Liu's book clearly explained the nature and treatment of warm diseases as described by the corpus of information available. This is the best text I have seen and is required reading for anyone treating auto-immune disorders, viruses such as HIV/AIDS and epidemic febrile conditions. Not for the layman!

"Is your head a bit achy? Just hold your left hand out in front of you. Now place your right thumb on top and your right index finger underneath your left palm in the "web" between the thumb and base of the first finger. As you continue to read the next few paragraphs, simply massage with gentle, circular motions at this shatzu point using a light amount of pressure.

"Relief is on the way. You're sampling shiatzu at this very mement. See-there are no mystical movements to master or complicated techniques to learn. Most of the movements? do them in your street clothes, anytime and anywhere. With a little practice, no ne will even know you're recharging the natural, dur-free way....the movement you're doing is effective against headaches and toothaches... Now switch hands...

Siatzu is based on the Japanese art of massaging and applying pressure to the body on energy lines called meridians...

Acupoint and trigger point touch therapy are covered in depth, with verbal explanation of techniques and logic accompanied by pictorial examples. Basic children's anatomy and physiology are presented in easy terms parents can understand, making this an excellent pick for any parent's library.

Touch is so very important to the healthy growth of children. It's obvious that children need lots of hugs and kisses in order to know they are loved. What's the first thing we do when our little ones are hurt or upset? We embrace them. When they are ill, without even thinking we stroke their head and massage the hurt away.

Acupoint and Trigger Point Therapy For Babies and Children is a resource that takes our natural healing touch to a whole new level. From this book, parents can learn to sooth their children through easy massage. The actual massage points follow the various lines of flow according to meridian theory. To the average person, this might seem a little over their heads or complicated. However, many parents will be pleasantly surprised that they have already been automatically massaging a number of these points when their children were ill or in pain. Therefore, the practices in this text merely expand on our natural instincts.

I have been doing Accupuncture for years now, but when I came across this book, decided to give "the workout" a try in lieu of the pricy Accupuncture appts and have been very please with the results! I perform the workout 3 times a week and find that I stay much more balanced and healthy than the monthly accupuncture appts. The main key I have found, make sure you are sending pressure in the right direction as mentioned in the book. If applying pressure the wrong way, may get adverse effects.
