I recently ordered this book for my holistic pediatric practice in Portland, Oregon and I must say it is one of the best written books I've seen on the topic of acupuncture with the pediatric population. The book is much more than that. Its a fusion of the "Western" and "Eastern/TCM" perspectives, written in such a way that the often sought correlations between the two systems of medicine are obvious and simple to understand. Dr. Loo has an undeniable command of TCM pediatrics. This book should grace the shelves of every TCM-based pediatric practice!

A solid and efficient treatment of the shiatsu.
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2000-07-25
This "in a nutshell" book is just what it promises, a brief but relatively complete treatment of Shiatsu. The book opens with a sketchy description of chi meridians, moves on to the five elements (fire, water, wood, metal, earth) and how they relate to health, contains some general tips on stretching, nutrition, and acupressure and then concludes with several pages of specific acupressure points and what they do and common ailments and how to treat them with acupressure.

The only thing lacking is in depth specifics on how to perform acupressure. The book for example directs a practitioner to stimulate the triple burner point 6 without mention of how long or how much pressure to apply. The description of where the points are is also a bit thin ("a hand width below the kneecap on the outside shin"). All in all this book is just 64 little pages but packs a great deal of information in that small size and is visually appealing, for the size and price it is "the book" for someone with a passing interest in shiatsu/acupressure.

Second edition is even better!

Review Date: 2006-03-02
This is a well written, well organized, attractively designed and comprehensive book on using massage to improve athletic performance. Although it is written for use by sports massage specialists, it is also useful for athletes and coaches. As an amateur athlete and martial arts instructor, it helped me understand when and how to use massage before and after athletic events, and what benefits to realistically expect; when it is not advised; and how to do simple self-massage or partner massage. Fascinating snippets about the history of massage in sports liven it up.
The new, second edition is better organized than the original. It uses photographs instead of drawings to better illustrate massage techniques, includes many new charts and figures, and updated research on the benefits of sports massage. Learning outcomes and study questions for each chapter have been added. Lists of figures, tables, and history briefs make it easier to quickly find information, and the entire book has a more attractive design.

I have read every single disappointed buyer of your book from fellow sufferers who don't need to be ripped off by supporting you but need answers! This is a ravaging, life-sapping illness, that many husbands, wives and children don't understand or have ongoing sympathy for, it is also a killer disease. But it is NOT a nestbed for profit makers. As to your blank pages, a tablet can be bought for $1.00.

If you read the only review of this book with five stars, you will see it is really a one-star review; perhaps the reviewer did that accidentally. His/her actual review explains how awful the book was.

I hate to dog on a book, but I've never seen a book with so many disparaging remarks. I want to learn more about the disease I have, from a competant writer. There's even a reviewer who read all the reviews and *still* bought the book, only to give it also a one-star rating.

Very underwhelming. If you knew *nothing*, this might be a mediocre starting point, but there are so many other great resources on thyroid disease. You deserve better than this book. Like is short.
"Thyroid Power" or "Fat, Fuzzy, or Frazzled", Mary Shomon's books and similar books are *crammed* with helpful scientific information. Also "Mood cure" is a great book worth checking out.

Ok ..I read all the reviews, good and bad and bought the book anyway. After reading his book I don't know if this guy actually had Hashimoto's syndrome. Anyway, he does give some food for thought in the direction of diet, etc. and what to add and to avoid. Since he doesn't give much in the way of sources to prove or support his claims of why his life style changes will work, I'm a bit skeptical of his claims. Still.. like many of us who would like to get off synthroid, I thought, ok .. I'll give it a shot.

I have to agree with the other reviewers who criticized him for not giving dosage amounts for the suppliments etc., and for the 'diary pages'. The number of pages listed for the actual writing IS misleading. Don't waste your money buying this, browse it in the book store first. If you think it's of value to you after actually seeing it, then get it.

Please don't write any more books!

You can save your money by hunting down Leedskalnin's "book" on the Web, but you can save your time by not reading it altogether. I have never seen such a collection of jumbled nonsense and purely empirical reasoning. As a prominent example of his empirical reasoning, he concludes that magnetic 'particles' are smaller than light 'particles' because magnetic force 'passes through' various photo-opaque media. Come to think of it, let's put 'reasoning' in quotes to reflect Leedskalnin's inconsistent employment of logic here, illogic there.

Whether or not Leedskalnin's "Coral Castle" reflects his application of some secret principles or forgotten paranormal abilities or such, you won't advance your understanding thereof by reading this crock. Save the author the posthumous embarrassment by steering clear of his rambling, poorly argued nonsense that is scarcely worthy of a curious but well-intentioned seven-year-old.

I assigned two stars, rather than one, solely for the book's comedic value. That, and the Web version (at least, the first 'hit' in my Google results) exhibited lovely, uniform typography.

This book is a bit hard to follow. However, Ed certainly knew a thing or two about magnetism. I've been to Coral Castle and seen part of the generator he built. I brought a magnetometer with me and checked the generator. It still has a substantial magnetic field coming from the magnets. You have to have some knowledge of magnetism and electricity to build your own generator, and from what I understand there were other items that Ed used that were stolen many years ago under strange circumstances, so what is displayed at the Castle now is only part of the story, not the whole story. Ed was incorrect about a few things though.

If I recall correctly, Ed says that "between the poles there is a semi-neutral part where there is not much going in or out", referring to the direction that the magnetic fields flow around a magnet. He was almost right. At the direct center of a magnet (between the two poles) there is no magnetic field at all, and it's called the Bloch Wall. Ed also says that "on the earth there is no place where the magnets are not going in or out". He's a little off there too. A law is a law no matter where in the universe you happen to be. The Bloch Wall is present wherever magnetism exists, even in an atom.

The North pole magnetic energy doesn't exit the North pole of a magnet (or earth) and circle around to the South pole and nor is it the reverse. When magnetism exits a magnetic pole it re-enters the magnet at the Bloch Wall, reverses its polarity, and then circles around to the opposite pole. Both poles are doing this simultaneously.

Ed's work is very intersting and still a mystery, but if you want to learn about magnetism you should read all of the books by Albert Roy Davis and Walter C. Rawls. That's where I discovered the information I've written here. I promise you there is no better source to learn about magnetism. Of the books written by Davis and Rawls, the most technical ones are "Magnetism and Its Effects on the Living System", and "The Magnetic Blueprint of Life". After reading their books I'm sure you'll agree that their discoveries are nothing short of incredible. They're right up there with Tesla's!

One of Dr. Cutler's better books in that it helps people understand that their health problems most likely are food allergy related and there IS something that can be done about it besides avoidance. It offers hope to those people who have suffered for so long.

Unbelievable!

There is a section in the middle of the book that begins at the bottom of page 172. Now it may be different with others, but I've found that after you put the allergin in the vial and test positive, I only need to follow either the first allergy elimination procedure on the following page. or if I don't have anyone to help me, the second procedure! Multiple cycles or repeats neccesary depending on the severity of the allergy, but just these simple procedures produce immense results! So at least try the procedure even if the other stuff to do with blood and organs and devices seems too daunting (or costly!)

Skip this book and go to the source...

Dr. Cutler barely mentions the acupuncurist from whom she learned her methods, but it was probably Dr. Devi Nambudripad or someone trained by her. So skip the copier and get your information from the woman who discovered a way to truly eliminate all allergies, not just food sensitivities. Her book, Say Goodbye To Illness, is packed full of testimonials, some which include phone numbers and email addresses, which are truly miraculous. She also has a research foundation which has verified the effectiveness of her method, which is called NAET. Nambudripad's materials are much more comprehensive, and there are a lot more NAET practitioners around the country than there are BioSet practitioners. Dr. Cutler does talk more about diet and enzymes than NAET does, but it is also old info you could get in any natural healing book. I am disappointed I wasted my time on this book and will stick with NAET.

The book offers a novel approach to management of common problems like obesity, depression, arthritis etc. It is based on the premise that allergy to many substances can trigger diverse and totally unrelated symptoms. It dwells on the natural system of health BioSET. This consists of diverse components as unique acupressure techniques, nutritional evaluation and use of enzymes to correct enzyme deficiencies, as well as detoxification through homeopathy along with life style changes.
The author emphasizes that there are ailments related to foods ingested and they include not only asthma, migraine but also depression, obesity, infertility and PMS. She talks about food allergy testing and muscle testing strategies. Finally she reviews BioSET home treatment for food allergies as well as enzyme therapy. She even devotes a reader-friendly chapter to recipies and diet plans.

This is a good book for a Licensed Massage Therapist or student in the LMT program. All others beware of who you massage ans what conditions they have. Some medical conditions should not receive massage because it can prove possible fatal, hence the reason to go to school and be licensed. Its scarey to think people are doing major massage and have had no Anatomy and Physiology classes.

This book is very small!! So small that I almost cant read the print. This would be a good gage gift or if you want to take this book on a date and not have the other person know it's in your back pocket or purse. Due to the size this book has only 4 chapters but is 128 pages long. This book isn't very helpful at all due to the fact you can barely read or see it. I thought I was getting a great deal for this book but I found I have great disappointment instead.

Each time I pick it up, I find something new. While some "cookie-cutter" approaches to 5 phase styles are presented, there is also enough theoretical meat to keep the reader interested. concisely way. Lack of translations of each Chinese/
Japanese characters would not really help.
I do not recommend for students of acupuncture.

Somewhat a better book than Extraordinary Vessels, but
still failed in explaining the basic acupuncture philosophy.
Too many quotes from too many different classics. Failure to
provide Chinese and Japanese characters and the lack of clear translation of each of the words do not really help readers
to understand the essence and fundamental. It could have been
a better book, but it is not.

After purchasing and reviewing several books, I have found this one to be the poorest. I train estheticians in LDM, and cannot use this book for my text. Flipping back and forth through the book, I had a hard time finding the information I needed in one place for a specific topic, such as the major nodal groups and their names - I gave up - no diagram, missing nodal groups. On page 11 (diagram)- some nodal groups are noted, but many are missing - aren't there lymph nodes in the legs? and in the arms?? Many people with lymphedema (or just edema) have swelling in the legs, feet, or ankles, and in the arms... How will this help them? The instructions for "massage" are easy to understand with great pictures for each step, but much of the instruction leads one to use their own personal definition of massage rather than skin stretching.
A good picture book, but not a good reference or study book.
But - I will say it is a good step-by-step instruction for anyone with a family member that needs LDM - with caution: follow the instructions carefully, step by step.
Personally, I like the "Foundations of Manual Lymph Drainage" - by Michael Foldi and Roman Strossenreuther much better. A little scientific for the novice, but has much more information for better understanding, and the chapters are more complete, which saves much time flipping back and forth searching in the Milady's book. Also, the DVD by Sean Riehl is very educational.
