An eye opener for left brainers!

I was skeptical of crystals and numerology prior to listening to this series. I'm not skeptical anymore. Dr. Gerber's explanations were consistent with my understanding of science and human behavior. He leads left brainer's like me gently toward understanding a phenomena I have witnessed but not understood.

wonderful view of the future of medicine

This is a wonderful listening experience. Gerber provides a clear review of theory and research findings supporting vibrational forms of healing. These include homeopathy, accupuncture, flower essences, past-life therapy, and imagery. He also provides a simple yet brilliant explanation of an emerging view of life which goes beyond the newtonian/cartesian model and includes the insights from physicists like Einstein and Tiller and also insights from metaphysicists and those with highly developed psychic abilities.

Gerber very clearly describes the view that the physical body is only the densest form of who we are but that we also have other bodies (etheric, astral, emotional, mental and causal) that operate under different principles than the newtonian ones. These insights help us to understand experiences of paranormal phenomena and the healing power of vibrational techniques which the newtonian model can not explain.

I very much enjoyed this book on tape. I strongly recommend it to others.

New Age Nonsense

Review Date: 1998-03-14
Uncritical acceptance of any and all mystical beliefs, from astrology to homeopathy, bolstered with poor science and great leaps of faith. The speaker (tapes) starts with "digital" nerve conduction, through layer after layer of "higher order" "energies", ending with his example of projecting swirling light from his heart chakra to quiet unruly babies. Medically worthless, but could possibly give the listener some insight into how scant pseudoscience can be amplified into complex belief systems by True Believers.

I found the scripts too wordy, the flow poor and the grammer incorrect. Disappointed with this purchase.

As a new hypnotherapist, I have found this book to be great tool to help me write scripts. I reviewed several books, and after careful consideration, and lots of recommendations, purchased this one. I have not been disappointed. I only wish that it were available as an online text so that it would be easier to cut, paste, edit and customize the scripts with much less effort.

As good as promised

Having been a hypnotist for over 15 year, I still enjoy examining other people's work. John Cerbone does an excellent job with his scripts here. It is difficult to use other people's words when you are working with a client, but John's scripts have a nice even feel and give you a great jumping off point. His scripts are well constructed and could be used to teach good hypnotic structure. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It would be bargain at twice the price.

Love the Book!

This is a great book, that cleary communicates the authors positive love for hypnosis and heling clients do well. The froward was written by Ormond McGill, and this book has to contain at least 125 complete hypnosis sessions for everything from multiple smoking cessation scripts to healing heartbreak, pain management and just abou anything you can think of. I frequently print-out some scripts and bring them into sessions with me, and find that Mr. Cerbone is a script writer that can be trusted. If you are serious about hypnotherapy, get this book, I *really* do use it and so will you.

Review Date: 2007-01-30
While this book covers information that is of interest to TCM practitioners and lay people alike, it does so in a disorganized manner. One would think that a book on pulse diagnosis might start with describing the attributes of a pulse. Defining the terms used to describe the pulse would be a good place to start. Perhaps then one could go into how to take a pulse and what to look for. Unfortunately this book violates all standard pedagogical principles. Terms are used before they are defined. Circular definitions are used and information is presented in a redundant manner. While the information is interesting, the book should have been written in a much clearer fashion.

This book is a compilation of case studies. It is a technical read for a patient of acupucture going through IVF. There is a ton of valuable information in this book, it's just very hard to get through it if you aren't trained to decifer all the lingo. For a doc, I'm sure it's an easy read!

Not useful, not well written
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2004-04-01
There is little to recommend this book now that there are more English language books available on chi gong.

The author's discussion on the conceptual aspects of chi gung are particularly confusing, meandering and poorly reasoned.

There is some limited discussion of different types of chi gung and some limited discussion of how to practice chi gung. The practice material is insufficiently detailed or clear to be of much use. There are far more useful books available today about learning chi gung.

Apart from a few interesting stories about specific chi gung masters there is very little value to be found in this book.

Excellent exposition on Qigong!

I first read this delightful, easy to understand and useful little book some 6 years ago (1992). Every time I read it, I learn something new. The chapters are well written, simple to understand and provide anyone ignorant of qigong with a great deal of information.

I enjoyed the material so much that I contacted the author, Master Paul Dong, and have trained with him since 1993. His methods are useful, valid, and of great merit. I highly recommend the book, and if possible to contact Master Dong directly for one-on-one training.

I also highly recommend his book "Empty Force" with Thomas Raffill. The basics of the method are presented in the book in good detail. Some have made comments that the method of Empty Force is not real.

These people have never taken the time to train in the method with anyone qualified in it, so their opinion is very hollow and without substance or fact. Those people should just be ignored. Others say that because the method is effective about 60% of the time, that it is not useful. To those self appointed pundits I say:

On their best day their best punch will fail at least 40% of the time.

Does that make their method of martial arts a fabrication? No, it makes them what all things are: imperfect. I have been involved in Martial arts since 1 9 7 0, and am always looking for tools to serve me in a conflict, if the Lin Kong Jing/Powerful Empty Force did not work, i would not practice it, and would not have spent the past s i x years of my life training in it, and teaching it in seminars around the world. If it were anything less than real, I would not keep getting asked back to teach. decide for yourself however, train and learn!!!

Sincerely,

Richard Mooney Senior Student of Master Paul Dong

I have now devoted myself to the practice. Thank you so much Master Paul Dong. It is my wish to learn from you in person.

A Joy to Use

Review Date: 2008-08-28
This book is a joy to use. It condenses a lot of information into a succinct and easy-to-use format. You can read only 8 pages, yet glean a wealth of information because the book is not overly verbose. Compared to most of the ugly, hideously formatted textbooks, this one is designed beautifully and is a delight to read. Symptoms are listed consistently between TCM patterns (for example, Aversion to [blank] is always listed first, not mixed up in a long symptom list)

In addition to studying TCM, I'm also a designer and thus appreciate well formatted, visually appealing information, of which there is a sorry dearth of in textbooks.

The MERCK MANUAL of Chinese Medicine!

Review Date: 2007-11-23
Being a student of Dr. Shi at Dongguk University, she kept things simple, however taught you not only what you needed to know to pass the boards, but also the "real" treatments for "real" patients.

This book breaks down the "disease" into SIMPLE TCM Dx, however will not only give you point recommendations, but also give you MODDED formulas.

Pills are great and all, but nothing beats a modded formula fresh from the herbal shop!

I use this book for quick reviews and frequently with my patients. I'm not ashamed, since school teaches a very BASIC foundation. Similiar to med school! Thats why most fresh medical students are usually grabbing the MERCK manual when in doubt!

I buy many books from China and my personal collection puts many schools to shame. This is a great book for the student, or the new doctor.

If you don't simply love it, sue me or come to my clinic and I'll be more than happy to share a pot of tea with you.

Almost useless

Review Date: 2008-04-19
I'm in my second quarter of a 1-year, 600-hour massage program. This book was used as our primary text for Massage I and as a supplemental text for Massage II.

I have found the book to be almost useless. It feels like a bunch of very short reports written by middle school students. The authors definitely sacrifice depth for breadth, as they seem to try to touch upon virtually every subject that could possibly be of any interest to a massage therapist, while almost entirely failing to actually convey any information.

I chose to give the book two stars rather than just one because I prefer to save one star (the lowest rating) for the surprisingly high number of textbooks out there with many spelling, grammatical, or factual errors. This book has relatively few.

If you're a 12-year old who's interested in massage and who wants a very basic introduction at a very easy reading level, this book might be appropriate for you. If you're older than 12 or 13 and actually want to learn something, I'd look elsewhere. Of course, if it's a required text for a class, I guess you're stuck with it (although I rarely bother with the reading assignments in it any more).

i was quite excited to get this book and see what it was all about. to be honest i dont see it as being that great of a resource for a few different reasons. the theory is essentially TCM theory and point locations/indications with a few little tidbits of ayurveda thrown in on top of it. keep in mind too that tcm theory, although containing SOME of the knowledge of chinese medicine for the past few thousand years has really only been around for half a century. a great deal of this book could just as easily have been a tcm point location/indication text and one would never know the difference. im not sure where the author's training came from , but its much too close to be coincidence. this book may be useful for a trained acupuncturist to try and incorporate some ayurvedic principles in to their work, but really i think there are much better places to look first for this, david frawley's marma book comes to mind. for an ayurvedic practitioner, i obviously dont think this book would allow one to be ready to start needling patients, and hopefully that isnt the intention of the author. there where a few interesting parts of this book, the historical aspects and traditional needle design in particular was entertaining. and the getting an answer to the puzzling question that has been running through my mind of where ether and air fit in to the chinese 5 elements, and wood and metal vis versa was also cool.

There is a lot I did not know about ayurveda.

Fianlly a book integrating the most complete system of health care and human undrstanding (Ayurveda) with the art and science of Acupuncture. TCM in the west is now not much different then allopathic western medical science - only treating disease, disregarding the whole of man..especially the subtle/causal bodies. Ayurvedic acupuncture provides a method of diagnosis and treatment from a fully holistic perspective...understanding that true healing only occurs at the level of consciousness. It is through the shifts in awareness and invoking of the divine inner flame that we can truly "heal" and once again return to the source of God/Love within. Ayurveda is the mother of healing..from which all medicine arose...and all will return.

This is a visual atlas showing needles inserted into each of the acupuncture points on the 12 Meridians, and the Du and Ren vessels. Some of the Extra points are also included. It's a good reminder for needle angle and depth of insertion for those who want a visual guide - there is full nudity, by the way, for those points (such as Du 1 or Ren 1) which are in areas normally clothed.
