I bought the book in LA Chinatown (greatwall bookstore) for $10.

Great little book, don't expect to treat it all with this book..

However, its great to use for the 1st time patient!

I enjoy using these points for intoduction to acupuncture.

The points are basic, the same ones we learned from school, and the case studies are as basic as they come.

I use the 3 point treatments more than the single ones, however, thats just my preference.

I like these "one point" acupuncture books.
quite a few of these points have been published in "journal of traditional chinese medicine" and i have used them with good experience.
The book is quite high in price, but i do recommend it!

Buy it, you'll use it!

Teacher Chen packs a great deal into this little book! Talk about minimalist treatment, this one takes the cake! This is definately not for the beginner. Point charts, while complete for this work, are general at best. This book is nearly "carry around" size (5.5 x 8 inches) and should work well for the practitioner.

Shudo Denmei's "Finding Effective Acupuncture Points" would make a perfect accompaniment for incredible healing work.

These are my two favorites this year!

I'm a small animal massage therapist but have not taken a course in Traditional Chinese Medicine yet. This book is very helpful for giving a good background for what seem to be complicated concepts and multiple ideas. Acu-Cat is written in simple terms with a well-organized format. For someone who did not have any training in bodywork, this might be a bit too much but still a good intro to TCM. I'm reading Acu-Cat along with Four Paws, Five Directions and find the former an excellent resource for the more detailed topics.
Acu-Cat is a "must read" for every vet, vet tech, & massage therapist who did not have TCM in their basic curriculum.

Cats are such sensitive little souls, that's what makes them so responsive to acupressure. Snow and Zidonis have created a guide to feline acupressure that clearly describes how to perform an acupressure treatment, including lots of diagrams. Best of all, the book has specific treatments for common feline conditions like kidney problems, aging issues, hindquarter weakness, calming, and much more. My cats love it, they say "PURRRRRRRRR". Your cats will be in 7th heaven and will definitely have all 9 lives.

I really enjoyed and value this book it presents the information not only about the location of the points but the image of each i.e. how it was named and the reason it is named the way it is. Also it gives a summation of key points and how points are linked. Excellent for anyone interested in the "ART" of chinese medicine not just a linear study of this ancient way of healing

An excellent adjunct for students of acupuncture. One drawback: it doesn't review all acupuncture points, only the major ones. Writing style is clear and precise, a plus in a market full of marginal translations

Arnie Lade does an excellent job of re-introducing the poetry and artistry of chinese medicine. This is book is beautifully written, and well laid out. It is a brilliantly clear resource for students and practitioners alike, as well as being an enjoyable and informative read.

A must on the bookshelves of anyone interested in chinese medicine.

This book was kind-of hard to read, but over all the information in it has been so useful! The book teaches techniques that the author uses in her practice. The art that she uses works wonderful, she has case studies so you can see how reflexology helps different patients, she tells the history as well. Overall a very good book, well written, informative, and fun! I gave it 4 stars because of it being a little difficult to read.

A friend lent me this book and I started using it right away. Some books on alternative healing have a lot of interesting theory and some have hands on information. This book has both from the theory of meridians to the exact "grips" one uses during a treatment. I recommend it highly and hope that it become's available soon

This book could be sub-titled "A great way to your partners happiness - help save your marriage" The pages are unusually thick paper for a inexpensive book today. There are many many color pictures all through the book. Just enough aromatherapy to get you started and more than enough massage concepts to keep you busy. My wife said after her first session "Did you learn all that from reading the book ? "

I love this book!

This book is a wealth of information for both aromatherapy and massage. I ordered it for the aromatherapy part, but I found the massage portion of the book to be equally beneficial. I have many massage books in my library, but I return to this one time after time. I esspecially like the aromatherapy encyclopedia, which covers most every essential oil and its most beneficial use.

Medicine, whether conventional, homeopathic, or herbal, as it is practiced in America follows mainly a cause-and-effect approach. It seeks THE REMEDY that will cure the disease. Instead, Botanical Medicine teaches us wisely that disease is the result of a complex set of factors: metabolic terrain, lifestyle, social and physical environment, and psychological structure. The treatment of major diseases or minor disorders requires a combination of remedies, but each set should be individualized according to the person's constitution. My survival (I am now 72) is based on my studies of homeopathic and herbal medicine since I was in my 20s. This book was the latest and the most efficient contribution to this survival process. I expect that Requena and Kenner will soon update it to introduce herbs whose healing powers have been recently found in the advanced industrialized countries, although they were known since long to indigenous people in different parts of the world.

This wonderful book takes us into the world of European aromatherapy, or phytotherapy, as it relates to all the systems of the body. I especially like the unexpected blending of Chinese and European traditions of healing and how the essential oils play a crucial role in health. This is a great book for the more serious practitioners of aromatherapy as it is full of chemistry and medical terms. Laypeople will enjoy the in-depth descriptions of the herbs.

From apple slices used to relieve itchy skin to curing a hangover - or preventing one - and dealing with depression, an A-Z organization makes it easy to locate a common condition, while 'do and don't do' cautions, food remedies, exercises, Chinese herbs and tips on when to see a doctor make each listing valuable. A recommended pick.

I am glad I bought this book. It's got a pretty good variety of pains and illnesses and most of the instructions are simple and easy to do. The meditation exercise it described helped my anxiety attacks and the yeast treatment for acne did seem to reduce my friend's acne. Overall, I found the book very useful.

I got the book as a birthday gift. After leafing through it, I admit that I had my doubts about some of the treatments listed in there. I never imagined that the needles on the hairbrushes can work like acupuncture needles. After I tried it for my knee pain, to my surprise, it worked. I haven't had the opportunity to try other treatments in the book (thank god), but I will keep it handy just in case.

Other books have come out on the topic of Chinese cures - but this is the most comprehensive yet, created by world-famous practitioner Dr. Henry C. Lu who uses his expertise to explain both Chinese medicine and its underlying philosophy of health and illness. Treatments are organized by complaints and include easy reference for treatment and cure and advice on hundreds of foods and herbs as well. Literally hundreds of Chinese herbs and their uses receive clear, specific mention; right down to the formulas and potions which make them useful. Very highly recommended: a must for any serious herbal treatment collection.

If you are interested in traditional chinese medicine(TCM), you will definitely love this book! Firstly, its such a thick book with tons of information. There are several sections in the book. There is a section where he lists out diagnostic of conditions and how to trace it to the cause of the problem (eg. kidney deficiency in yin; or heart and kidney not communicating, or heat in lungs etc). Then there is another section which lists the natural properties of each food (almost any kind of food you can think of, from duck eggs to strawberry, gancao(herb) to mulberry, honey to rice. Another section he talks about the origin of each herb, and what the herb is used for (eg treating false fire condition). Great book! I am buying another one for my mum to read!

Wise words from a wise man. This book by professor Anton Jayasuriya is a very good introduction to the science of acupuncture. The book is easy to read and contains excellent anatomical channel maps and "landmark" descriptions. Therapeutics is rudimentary but again very useful to the student. Of particular interest is Professor Anton's fondness for Baihue (Du 20). Every patient who attends the Medicina Alternativa clinic in Colombo (Sri Lanka) receives an initial needle to this point, which is reflected in therapeutics.

This book has sold over two million copies! It covers all aspects of acupuncture including complications. The author is the most published and well known Acupuncturist in the World and this book is the sum total of over 40 years and 2.5 million patients of experience!

This is the only book that you will need if interested in acupuncture. There is so much information in this book to review, but I will reply to any specific questions.

I am a personal friend and associate of the author, so any question that I can't answer I will ask him to confirm.

This is a real bible for medical profession, the only thing that may help a lot is if you get a better kind of paper, ...( one needs it for a long period of one's life, maybe years, and will use it very much as consultating book). Any way I, as a medical doctor, see this book as a rare and non usual pearl...in acupuncture for medical doctors, and every M.D. would help his(her) patients if read a book like this, and will make "miracles" if study in deep this diamond...

Great translation of a great book

Unschuld has created a wonderful translation of a great classic. This text presents the often cutting style of the physician Hsu Ta-ch'un. This is not a clinical manual in the sense that there are no point prescriptions or formulas. For those who understand the theories behind such "prescriptions," the concepts will be enlightening. For scholars of the medicine, the criticisms of the "four schools" and the appearance of the original Chinese text will be valuable. The often critical style of Hsu Ta-ch'un is still highly relevant today, as he spends a good amount of time criticising "lesser" physicians.

This book is a translation of a text from 1757 by Hsu Ta-ch'un, translated by Paul U. Unschuld.

This book will be of particular interest to those who have a background in traditional Chinese medicine and are knowledgeable with TCM terminology. It is not a book recommended for beginners wishing to study TCM.

The book is fascinating, delving deeper into the mysteries of TCM classifications and diagnosis and will be difficult for anyone trained in TCM to put down.

The chapters are short, to the point and full of ancient wisdom. One chapter I enjoyed deals with asking the patient for his/her preferences and aversions, what gives them joy or misery, etc. This will further enable the trained practitioner to diagnose the nature of the patient's illness. Fascinating reading.

This is not an herbal material medica and if anyone is looking for such a book I would not suggest this. It's more for diagnosis and understanding the nature of illnesses rather than specific herbs and formulas.

a splendid read

I would rate this text highly. I refer to it often for inspiration. Its a book that is suitable for any reader weather your a student or someone who has an interest in the classics or is working with the principles contained in the Nei Jing or Nan Jing. What we have within this book is the ability to get behind a great physician who really knew what he was talking about, the breath of his Knowledge is clear. I certainly think this text is equally, if not more relevant today as it was when it was written, 250 years ago. Not only does he criticise so called famous physicians, but he accepts that poor treatment or scrupulus doctors is heavens way of correcting the order of things. In this context, we as practitioners have a choice, weather we choose to know our subject well or not is not necessarily the way, rather an honest and open mind is what will make a good student/ practitoner especially one who is diligent enough to read the classics and bring alive these principles in his or her clinic.

Indeed some of these arts have been lost, but there are a few people out there today practicing at a high level that the auther refers to. If you buy this book, weather or not you understand what is being said or not doesnt reallly matter, rather, its what was behind the mind of this amazing physician that will inspire you. His talk on the 9 needles is clear, this art is lost, but, what he does do is echo the priniples that are contained within the classics and indeed praises the worthy physicians who understood the way of heaven, earth and man.
