I first purchased this book in the fall of 2002, and proceeded to travel across the country in 2003 to accompany my sister to receive NAET treatments for both of us. Using the techniques, we have been able to help other people to understand the healing benefits of both the NAET treatments for allergies and the Living Pain Free treatments to save from many trips to a doctor or the hospital. Many have requested their own copies of this book, which I was able to acquire for them.
One example is of my niece-in law who was suffering alot of pain from what a doctor said was either a torn ligament in her knee, or perhaps a blood clot. She came to me, I showed her how to use the book, and after the treatment, she walked across the room without pain. She continued to treat herself at home and is doing much better, with no sign of a blood clot. Another friend suffered from MS and Fibromyalgia and migraines, requested her own copy of the book, and is also helping her mentally challenged daughter with multiple problems. Another friend was not able to cry, used the guidlines in the book, and now is able to cry over a sad movie etc!
I highly reccomend the book for those who are really sincere in self-help.

This is an excellent self-help book. Page "58" is very helpful to overcome immediate allergic reaction temporarily. On the very first visit, Dr. Mala taught me how to use these points. Every morning when I wake up I massage these points before I get out of bed. That gives me tremendous energy all day along. During my initial NAET treatments, I was advised to massage these points every two hours. That helped me pass my treatments without any unpleasant reactions. I love this book.

Well illustrated and lots of symptoms covered

I recently purchased both this book and "Say Good-Bye to Your Allergies" by the same author. This is the much better book - actual information on treating particular symptoms, rather than an extended apology for her NAET system of allergy treatment. The only thing that I really found more distracting than helpful was the use of medical terms when navigating to particular pressure points. I've read several books on accupressure, and this is the only one that requires a decent knowledge of 'Gray's Anatomy' to understand much of what she is saying. The illustrations go a ways to helping that, but I couldn't escape the feeling that the author was trying to make sure that readers knew she REALLY is a medically trained doctor.

Again, aside from that caveat, a good book with lots of maladies addressed.

Best Accupressure Manual

This book has been a godsend. With some experience in accupressure my wife and I have been able to use this book to address all sorts of ills. She once brought down a 104 F fever to normal in 2 hours using the pressure points in this book.

The only downside is that QA on the book is sorely lacking. Points on diagrams are missing in the narratives, the index does not include many common ailments that that are actually covered and can be found by browsing through the pressure point descriptions. There are many other editing mistakes. If this is cleaned up in the second edition, as a working manual this will be second to none.

Pretty good...

Powerful Lifestyle Changes Identified
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-12-06
This is a powerful book for anyone dealing with depression arising out of breakdowns in lifestyle habits. If you follow Mark Myers' recommendations, you might be able to stay out of the therapist's office (although those are valuable places, too!) and away from medication (although there's a time for meds, as well).

In my own life I know the value of following Mark's recommendations. I know that when I get slack with one of the five lifestyle changes Mark talks about, the forces that keep a healthy life together start to weaken.

In my work with mentally challenged people, I tell my clients that if they become disciplined in the five lifestyle demands set forth in this book, their lives will go a lot more smoothly, their stress levels will be reduced, and they'll be happier and feel more in control of their lives.

They do make efforts to succeed where they can, and once they see the benefits of a lifestyle change, they stay with it. Sometimes they fall back, but that only teaches them the power of the change they had implemented. They do their best to retain the beneficial lifestyle change.

If the recommendations in this book help people with serious disorders of the brain chemistry (of course they remain under medical care and continue to take medications), how do you think the advice in this book might help you?

One awesome quality of this book is the index. I'm an index freak, somewhat, and this is one of the best indexes I've seen in all the books I've reviewed.

An alternate approach to treating depression
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2008-07-16
In this book, author and depression sufferer Mark Myers argues for an alternate approach to treating depression. He suggests making lifestyle changes in five areas--increasing physical exercise, increasing sleep, improving diet, increasing social interaction, and decreasing harmful addictions--can naturally eliminate depression without the use of antidepressant medications, and he presents a compelling case describing how this approach worked for him.

Myers also attempts to present a scientific argument in support of his method; given this, he cites a plethora of research of studies. Unfortunately, these citations are not actually included in the book. At the end of the book, Myers notes that in the interest in keeping costs down, citations for the book are instead located on his web site. However, when I went to the web site, I was unable to locate the reference notes. Without the notes, it is difficult to evaluate the value of the research presented in the book and whether in fact there is truly evidence to back up the author's claims.

As a psychologist, I certainly have no argument with the basic premise of this book: most people who are depressed would in fact benefit from getting more exercise, sleeping more, eating better, increasing their social interactions, and decreasing their addictive behavior, and I think that Myers provides some practical strategies for how the reader can go about improving in these areas. However, I might have rated this book more highly if the citations were included and thus I could've evaluated for myself the research evidence referenced.

An Upbeat Book About Depression

Review Date: 2008-04-26
UP Without Meds from Hugo Press in beautiful Taos, New Mexico where the author lives, is one of the most upbeat books about depression I've ever read. A Harvard graduate and former ad man with a flare for the positive approach, Mark Meyers introduces the novel idea that your natural state is buoyant and entirely within your control.

Meyers has done a thorough job of researching his subject and offers many fascinating insights and statistics. "This year about seventeen million Americans will experience at least one episode of major depression," he says. Concisely written in a conversational style, the book discusses the down-side of relying on medications, but doesn't recommend that you drop them if you're already on antidepressants. Instead, he says to stay on your meds while you gradually improve your lifestyle until you don't need meds anymore because you've solved the problem yourself.

Meyers identifies the basic causes of depression: sleep deprivation, lack of exercise, loneliness, unhealthy diet and some form of addiction whether it's caffeine, chocolate, alcohol or late night TV. He makes a case against high fructose corn syrup, trans fats and "the loan shark"--sugar. "Depression isn't a brain-chemical imbalance," he states. He admits genes probably have something to do with it, but insists that "...above all, unbalanced chemistry is your body's response to an unbalanced life."

Meyers shows you how to get an active, healthy life by following his five-point program. His arguments are convincing because he's his own guinea pig. Trapped in depression for 45 years, he finally found a way out by changing his lifestyle. UP WITHOUT MEDS makes you believe you can do it, too. Meyers is on a mission to make your life better--and his own. He offers personal one-on-one telephone coaching and support, and connections to live workshops and teleseminars to speed you on the road to recovery. [...]. Buy the book and pass it on to a friend!

This book is succinct and to the point loaded with "uncommon Commonsense".
Surely one can put into action several of the five grounded plans to lift the fog and move forward with clarity. I especially liked how the author provided copious evidence for debunking a myriad of embedded myths in pharma and food.
A quick read with a plan of action. This reader says "Just Do It".

The chapter about friendships shed new light on how I want to be in relationships. The book is very readable, and makes SELF-Help easy to accomplish.

This book is well organized and gives a good introduction to the background and philosophy of Chinese medicine if you are interested. The photos are clear and easy to follow. The large format of the book helps beginners to learn. I used some of the techniques for headaches and it worked-- no aspirin necessary. I also tried it for my teenage son to calm him when he could not fall asleep; he fell asleep within minutes. Keep this reference book near your medicine cabinet and reach for it instead of the usual drugs. You will be pleasantly surprised.

I have fibromyalgia and arthritis and sometimes the pain is so constant I just want to find some kind of relief. I tried 5 sessions of acupuncture for my neck arthritis with a wee bit of help but have always gotten relief when I slowly massage or put pressure on certain areas around my neck. The book substantiates what I've thought about putting pressure on certain muscles so I'll be interested to see how my pain improves over time.

I especially enjoyed reading how the body is so interconnected, something I've suspected for years.

An oversized format to this title might prove a shelving challenge to some collections but compensates by making for a great display item in THE ACUPRESSURE ATLAS, pairing step-by-step color photos of technique with anatomy pointers and therapy keys. From massage points to healing pressure potentials, THE ACUPRESSURE ATLAS offers far more insights on home how-to basic health care than most titles and an emphasis on visuals which makes for infallible applications.

Lots of good and very interesting information. I will try the cleanse; however, the book has a big flaw: it has no references to back up medico-scientific statements made about the liver or other bilogical functions. The few footnotes refer to the author's other books. There are two unrelated chapters at the end of the book written by scientists & duly referenced. Plus, a vegetarian diet is recommended; this can be ignored if you're not into that.

This book presents in a simple protocol the steps in naturally removing stones from ones liver, gall, and kidneys. This material has been around for awhile but this book present it in way that even a new comer to these ideas can readily accept and understand.

For those wanting a scientific explanation as to how stones affect the body and mind as well as playing a role in most diseases won't be disapointed. The author makes a rational case for natural stone removal via a discusion of how the body works and the biochemical processes involved. At the same time he doesnt bog down the reader with too much theory.

The stone removal progam presented in this book is safe ( if instructions are followed )and uses low cost ingredients.
If youre serious about getting well, strong, and filled with energy-GET this Book.

You might not realize that you have gallstones until you read this book. Or, if you already know that you have gallstones but unsure about what the causes are and how to cleanse your systems from them without surgery, this is the book for you.

This thought-provoking book, The Amazing Liver and Gallbladder Flush (the old title, The Amazing Liver Cleanse, has been discontinued), is more than an eye-opener. It provides proven techniques to painlessly remove up to several hundred gallstones at a time using homemade natural products, which have been used for centuries.

Written by Andreas Moritz, a medical intuitive and practitioner of Ayurveda, Iridology, Shiatsu and Vibrational Medicine, this book is not a substitute for medical advice yet provides an ancient way to take care of your body before gallstones cause more serious health problems. Readers will find Moritz's advice invaluable for increasing the quality of life.

I owe my newfound health and vibrant life to Andreas Moritz, for writing this profound book. This book changed my life in countless important ways. From my first liver cleanse to my 10th and last, I have felt more flexible, lighter, happier, more energetic and all-around more youthful and vibrant. Anger I was harboring within dissolved with every stone I passed. I am now pain-free! I still can't believe it! Every word he says in his book is true. You'll be more than amazed, as I was, when you do his liver cleanse. Other liver cleanses I have tried produced no effective results whatsoever. They were a complete waste of time. But not this one. I'm convinced that THIS is the only bona fide method of cleansing the body, mind and spirit in a non-invasive, self-empowering way. And it's so easy to do! Whoever thinks this is bogus need only try one cleanse to know the reality and impact of it. The proof is in the pudding, as the old saying goes.

My eternal gratitude to Mr. Moritz for writing such a critically important book for our time. I have the utmost respect for this body of work and his incredible knowledge of the human body.

The Amazing Liver Cleanse is a truly inexpensive way of restoring your health and a happy, pain-free life. The book explains a simple, sure-fire way of becoming the healthiest person you can be. What more could anyone ask for?! A+++! Extraordinary!

Hard to follow, especially if you're a beginner. I'd recommend Acupressure's Potent Points: a Guide to Self-Care for Common Ailments is so much easier to use, so helpful.

Also needs more editing (typos, etc).

This intrigued me because it said using chopsticks, but it's just accupressure, you can use your fingers/chopsticks/whatever can reach that pressure point.

This book is a very easy and ready to use guide to acupressure which can satisfy both those who are willing to get a first idea of acupuncture/acupressure/chi flow theory and to those that are already familiar with these concepts and want to learn how to apply them at any time a for a large variety of situations without having to go through boatloads of theory or techniques that require long and supervised practise.

Fundamental theory is indeed covered, but, further studies may be necessary for those who are interested in theory.

I love this book and keep it handy. It is easily read and understood and practiced. By way of example if one were to wake up in the morning with a stiff neck, you would simply turn to the contents, look for neck pain, there is is on pg. 75. On page 75 there is a short general description along with the main perscription. The following pages go into detail on each point of the perscription (about a page per point), clear illistrations and pictures and intructions tell you how to locate the point, the energetic actions of the Qi connected to it, the symptoms and functions and how to best manipulate the point.
Self treatment is easy. It is also simple enough that I can call my wife over who knows nothing about it, hand her the long stick show her the diagram and say put it here and push. Best of all it has yet to fail me. I can't recomend this book highly enough.

You want to learn the right techniques to practice shiatsu? Then, get this book. It is the best reference you could get. "The complete book of shiatsu therapy" is a practical guide that shows you the points to press during a routine treatment or for a particular ailment or disorder, it shows you the points location and their anatomical correspondance.
You may like or dislike the fact that this book does not reflect the eastern medical phylosophy (what meridian is he working on now?), as opposed to "Zen Shiatsu". It offers you an excellent basis to become a great shiatsu "technician".

No homeopathic practitioner should be without this book; I only wish I had more stars to work with. I must emphasize that I am not acting on Mr. Namikoshi's behalf, nor do hope to see anything except more people writing reviews such as this one other than myself, for that will mean that more people have gone out and found a copy themselves. Just look under eft - i.e. emotional freedom techniques - if you are curious. Youtube has lots on it, or you can read urls. If you are a believer in Scriptures, my humble opinion is that you may wish to avoid the recommended verbal repetitions. To me they seem counter Torah and kind of witchy. I do believe acupressure has it's health benefits, but I think prayer rather than "positive affirmations", i.e. YHWH vs. say Norman Vincent Peale with yin/yang meridians, is the way that pleases our Heavenly Father and does not lead to spiritual traps and distractions we may wish we had never gotten into.

I give it two stars for clearly presenting it's case, but no more stars because of what I feel is its potentially spiritually dangerous approach to emotional healing.

The book can also be potentially dangerous for one's physical health. Here is one of the affirmations: "Even though I still have some remaining piercing pain in my eye I deeply and completely accept myself."

This is kind of like "Christian Science." It seems to advocate that if you just feel the right way and/or think the right way, you can change a physical condition. Uhhhh...like maybe that physical pain needs some medical attention?

.
The Emotional Freedom Technique described for self-help in this book is surprisingly effective for a wide range of problems. It is based in the fairly new understanding that negative emotional patterns are symptoms of disturbances in the energy merdians of the body. With EFT we can intervene and correct these disturbances and imbalances directly - at the energy level - through specific acupressure points. Since energy is then free to flow naturally, healing of emotional issues often leads to physical healing and an increased over-all sense of well-being.

Such claims of rapid emotional healing may sound too good to be true, as we come from an orientation of traditional counseling, congnitive, analytical, and 'reliving the pain' psychotherapies. However, these approaches are rarely as effective as we would wish. One only needs to try these new energy methods for oneself to discover their power to create quick and lasting results.

I am certain that energy healing systems are the wave of the future.

I have studied hundreds of different techniques for releasing emotional negativity and trauma (both eastern and western). This book and the techniques within it are leagues ahead and more powerful than any others I have found.

If you are looking for happiness, release of depression, release of additictions, healing of past emotional trauma -- even letting go of big stuff like issues around childhood, deep grief, or anger/rage/sadness/depression ... then this book is your fastest path to getting there. The technique is easy to do and I found I achieved results in minutes/hours as opposed to months/years of psychotherapy or other techniques.

I have used this technique with great success for over 10 years, but it was only 3 years ago that I came across this book -- it is an iteration of the original concept of the people who developed/discovered the technique -- I like the Author's simplification of the process, and have found it to be just as powerful but a lot more simple than other iterations.

This author has given every person the gift of emotional healing. It does not require changing your beliefs (even if you don't think the process will work, it will). It does not require positive affirmations. It does not require months of processing and drama. It does not even require that much of your time (you can literally do a session in < 15 minutes...though it depends on what you are trying to release).

The only thing the reader must do is be willing to WANT to shift emotionally. That is a big step to take for many in our society who prefer to be unhappy rather than take responsibility for themselves.

I highly recommend this book be read and used immediately !!! I really hope it becomes a bestseller -- it should be one. It is a revolutionary process. It may very well put psychologists and psychotherapists out of business. If all of us used this technique, we could change the world.

This is the one to get - even if it's not on your "required" list. It is pocket-sized but packed full of useful, portable information. I use it for quick point reference, particularly in grand rounds. It is condensed, but complete. Has concise information on tongue and pulse diagnosis, basic Chinese medicine and all the points and meridians. My friend has the other one - lots of full-frontal nudity with real human models in her book, and it cracks us both up! Who needs that in school. This book is nicely made and looks like it will last. Pocket Atlas of Acupuncture is a book that has color pictures, you can see the arteries and veins that are close to the acu-point.
All jing well points are color with green.
There is a slight difference how deep you have to insert the needle in some points. If you check Cam and Deadmen books and compare you will know what I`m talking about.
I think is worth to invest in this book . I like the size of the book because I can put it in my lab cot and if I forgot where is the point I will open my cute pocket book, go to the page and I will be save.

This is a great book, and I am still kicking myself for having bought a different book first.
Some pros:
- This book contains ALL the points, not just the "important" ones
- The categories, functions, and indications for each point are listed
- The pictures are full-color drawings and include all the underlying structures (muscles, bones, etc), not just surface anatomy -- and they are high quality DRAWINGS and not photographs (having a photo of a naked woman for illustration purposes [found in a similar-looking acupuncture atlas] may be helpful, but not so when you have to take the train or bus to school and have to constantly cover up your pages)
- The paper is high-quality glossy paper that will stand up to years of flipping through the pages
- There is a FANTASTIC general information section in the beginning of the book, with some of the best 3D pulse illustrations I've ever seen

I hope this was helpful!!

I purchased a copy of this book some time ago hoping it would give more insight into my ayurvedic massaging. I was disappointed to find it's filled with many misinformations. First of all, the author has no idea of differentiations between vedic, yogic and ayurvedic. Secondly there are some really strange statements ("acupuncture originated from marma therapy"), which are founded more on the author's vivid imagination and are not supported by any evidence... Thirdly, no contraindications for ayurvedic massage are given. Lastly the massage techniques are given very vaguely/crudely.
The only good thing about this book are the dosha descriptions, but that can be found in most ayurveda related books.

I strongly suspect the other reviewer who wrote two (!) positive comments must be a friend of the author.

Ultimately, a waste of both time and money.

An ayurvedic gem!

If one wishes to read more "in-depth" material that goes into the Ayurvedic fundamentals in detail then Atreya's previous books, this book along with "Practical Ayurveda: Secrets for Physical, Sexual & Spiritual Health", "Ayurvedic Healing for Women: Herbal Gynecology" and all deal with this. As a student of Ayurvedic medicine I can honestly say that Atreya's knowledge is unquestionable. ~ Brenden Skudder

Atreya's bodywork background comes to the fore in this offering of knowledge called "Secrets of Ayurvedic Massage." This book is a very detailed insight into the use of "Massage" in the Ayurvedic health system. The beauty of this book is its detail to all aspects of Ayurvedic approach to body work, from its technique based on individual diagnosis to its information on the Ayurvedic energies of oils. This book is packed full of information. It also goes beyond what is being offered in other books dealing with the subject by sharing the knowledge of the effects on the subtle body. You will find topics such as "The place of massage in Ayurveda", "The Importance of Prana in Ayurvedic Massage", "The Place of Meditation in Ayurvedic Therapies" "The Appropriate Use of Oils, Herbs and Powders" to name a few. Also of great help to my own studies and practice of Ayurveda were the chapters on "Nadis - The Subtle Currents in the Body" and "Marmas - The Subtle Pranic Points in the Body." This book contains much information on these topics with very good charts. Atreya's own experience with bodywork is his guiding light as he guides the reader through knowledge gained through practice. For my school studies of Ayurvedic massage I used what information I took in notes and then used this book (not the text book that we received) for my study. I am still referring to this book in my practice to become a better bodywork practitioner. I would also recommend Atreya's earlier book "Prana - The Secret to Yogic Healing" to any one wanting to further explore Prana/ energy and bodywork. Thank you Atreya.

Fairly Helpful Book

This book is different from what I expected and, if I had been a little bit more on the ball about understanding it's contents, I probably wouldn't have bought it. I was looking for a book on scalp acupuncture that involved stimulating the parts of the brain involved motor/sensory and other neurological centers. This is not that type of book. It doesn't necessarily take into account the various centers of the brain, instead it looks at the scalp as a microcosm of the body much like ear and hand acupuncture. From there Yamamoto designated points of the scalp much like you would find when identifying points on the ear.

If you are interested in learning this type of scalp acupuncture, then this is the book for you. The book is kind of confusing at first, but it has a dvd that helps clarify things up.

The book is very good, well writen and very ease to understand... the DVD that comes together helps a lot, I think the DVD is so important to locate the points. I really improved results in clinical cases. I dont give 5 starts because the chart that comes with the book the location of the points are quite differente between the book/DVD from the chart.. It would be very nice to receive another chart :).

Thanks
I really recommend
