An Amazing Book

Review Date: 2008-01-12
This little book looks at Acupoint selection and pattern treatment in a totally new way! As a "minimalist" point practioner, this book has taken me another step towards extremely effective therapy. It has helped me rethink pattern diagnosis and treatment approaches. Apply it's wisedom slowly, carefully and effectively and you will be amazed.

This is more a professional text than a "How-to" book.

EVERYBODY'S GUIDE TO NATURE CURE

By Harry Benjamin, published by Thorsons, ISBN 0 7225 0703 8, 481 pages

This is a superb book. It is a thorough and comprehensive treatment of natural methods of building health, preventing illness and curing disease. The book starts with a clear exposition of the difference between the traditional natural methods of health care and the modern chemical based medical approach. Each topic is discussed in a simple forthright manner. Benjamin is an experienced author and has a clear style devoid of technical or mystical verbiage. A large portion of the book is concerned with simple ways that people can use to enhance their health. Children's ailments are covered and each "system" of the body has a chapter with Nature Cure advice as appropriate. There is a particularly useful chapter on Fever. Current medical attitudes mandate that fever be suppressed - Nature Cure holds that fever is a method that the body uses to cleanse itself of toxins. The discussion is clear and the reader can decide for themselves.

This is an important book. It compares with "Philosophy of Natural Therapeutics", by Henry Lindlahr, but is simpler to understand. It is a "must" for those interested in the natural treatment of illness and for the cultivation of health.

Having this book on my shelf is like having a personal ergonomics consultant on 24-hour call! I was having some pain in my forearm, and got nervous about carpal tunnel. I pulled out _Feeling Good at Work_ for a quick review, and immediately figured out what the problem was (the illustrations are really great). I have now cannibalized my seldom-used desktop and am using the keyboard on my lap... whew! I was really a little worried about how I was going to go into my computer-intensive job safely, and now I'm pretty much worry-free. My advice? Get a copy of this book for yourself, and snag a few for your desk jockey friends while you're at it. Tell them it's good for your productivity + peace of mind!

excellent integrated healing book
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.

The author's reverence for health and life shines through; the 1977 edition gets pulled off my shelf every year for a review, as it has for many years. Ms. Berkson was ahead of the wave by integrating reflexology, yoga, nutrition, herbology, acupuncture/acupupressure, and imagery/meditation -- a lovely synthesis from a loving spirit. I haven't seen the re-issued edition yet, but it may have updated information regarding some of the nutritional information. I wish I could have written this book myself.
