Being an acupuncturist, I was really surprised by the depth in which Kailin covered his subject. Any question I might have had going into the text, in terms of OSHA standards for practice within my profession, were thoroughly covered. Practitioners should have this book handy, for reference, and for their own piece of mind and the health of their practice. This text should also be required in TCM schools nationwide.

The Textbook of Acupuncture Therapy

Review Date: 2007-06-09
This is the first truly comprehensive textbook of Chinese acupuncture in the English language.

The author, who practices acupuncture and osteopathy, describes in a clear and straightforward manner the complete range of acupuncture techniques, with anatomical references to the structure of the human body.

Dr. Austin presents through text and many detailed illustrations the precise locations of all acupuncture points along the 12 organ meridians (or pathways of energy), as well as the points on the two major vessel meridians. When manipulated by needle, massage, percussion, or Moxa, these points can help balance deficiencies and excesses within the body.

The text is well suited for doctors, nurses, students, and others interested in understanding this art and science of healing.

I know nothing of this book, but I can say this:

If, Dr. Harris Gellman is anything of an author, as he is a hand surgeon, then it must be really good work!

I was a patient of Dr. Gellman's, as a small baby! YES, I was less than two years old, back in 1992 when I received my first of several hand surgeries, performed by Dr. Gellman for reconstruction of my right hand, due to a birth anomaly!

My dad said he didn't like him very much as a personable individual, BUT on the other hand (no pun intended), he wouldn't take me to anyone else either! So, he must have done something pretty impressive to affect my dad in such a way, because my dad is the kind of person that simply won't do business with anyone he doesn't care for... at all... EVER!

Anyway, I just wanted to say...
DR. GELLMAN... THANK YOU, SO VERY VERY MUCH!!
I appreciate the work that you did for me at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, when I was a small boy.

Thanks again,

For any one who has any doubts about the efficacy of acupuncture, this is the book to read to put those doubts to rest. This is a collection of six well-documented articles on acupuncture including its history, practice in the West, analgesic effects, effects on the circulatory and immune systems, clinical effectiveness and adverse effects. The authors include well-known practising acupuncturists some of whom are also MDs and affiliated to respected institutions such as Harvard Medical School. References to the articles include fairly recent research from publications such as the Lancet and the British Medical Journal, as well as Chinese literature. This book leaves little doubt that acupuncture stands up to both the test of time (some 3000 years) as well as modern rigorous scientific evaluation and is a beneficial complement to Western medicine.

This book covers everything a massage therapist needs to know, things I wasn't even taught in massage school. If you want to know it all, get this book. It is wonderful and I plan on using it as THE massage book for the massage school I am opening this year.

REVIEW OF "THE BIOPHYSICS BASIS FOR ACUPUNCTURE AND HEALTH," by Dr. Shin Yin Lo.

As a layman am not qualified to report on portions of this book, as it contains countless formulas and lab reports to back up the text, which will be helpful for technical readers. The other portions were most readable, and made it a great discovery for me.

I found this book to be a most comprehensive and informative revelation. It tackles subjects such as quantum mechanics, holistic health, Oriental medicine, energy medicine, and meditation, any of which had previously caused me to buy a book on that one subject alone, and thus have consumed much of my prior reading time. Here is a book that brought these concepts together in a clear and understandable process but still left room for my imagination to find things to wonder about.

This is essentially a book about what the Chinese describe as the meridian system in the human body, how it probably works, why it is fundamental to all our other systems, thus our health, and how quantum mechanics probably fits in its function. Told in the most reasonable of ways, with clear examples to explain the concepts. References to numerous experiments are given throughout, lending a concrete scientific basis for the explanations.

Dr. Shin Yin Lo is a former Professor of Physics, having lectured at leading universities. He is also an inventor with numerous patents to his credit, an international lecturer, and an accomplished Doctor of Chinese Medicine.

In Body Massage For Holistic Therapists, Francesca Gould draws upon her years of experience and expertise as a teacher of holistic massage and beauty therapy in Bristol to provide the reader with comprehensive, step-by-step instructions in a practical, workbook approach with illustrative photography throughout. In addition to tasks designed to assist therapy massage students to build a portfolio of evidence, and multiple-choice questions intended to help them with licensing or certification exam preparations, Body Massage For Holistic Therapists is thoroughly "user friendly" and an invaluable guide which can be confidently recommended to anyone seeking to expand and improve their knowledge base and "hands on" abilities with respect to body massage. Also very highly recommended are Francesca Gould's earlier holistic medicine titles: Aromatherapy For Holistic Therapists; Anatomy And Physiology For Holistic Therapists; and Indian Head Massage.

I took a course in Chinese medicine and read many books written on the subject, however, until I came accross with this book, all the abstract concepts of Chinese medicine did not really sink in. Harper's book is well written, very easy to understand and presents a great deal of information. I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning the basics of Chinese medicine as well as some other natural healing techniques. Her way of writing is healing.

Well, any book by Saul Goodman is worth having. If you want to develop a deeper understanding of what bodywork is about and the role you play then Saul's books are a must. He is a pioneer in this field in ways which are not addressed so much by other Shiatsu teachers. Thanks Saul
