A Great Book About Alternative Medicine!!!
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 13 total.
Review Date: 1998-01-23
While I was a student of the New England School of Acupuncture I had the great pleasure of being a student in Marie's clinic for 3 years. She is a practitioner of the highest quality. She was trained by Dr. James Tin Yau So, also at the New England School of Acupunture and is one of America's most senior practitioners. Her book is a great introduction for laypeople and a resouce for students. I highly reccomend it!

Very nice!
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 7 total.

This book is an excellent beginning book on the theory (and some practice) of acupuncture. The concepts are very easy to grasp, but you don't get the feeling that you are being "spoon-fed". Dr. Mann has a real talent for taking complicated (for most Westerners) concepts and putting them into a frame of reference where we can easily understand them. It's very easy to read, and I highly recommend it.

A great work, combining Chinese and Indian body energy systems. If you are not an acupunturist, this book helps you understand how everything within our bodies is interdependent. And can be used mainly as a reference book.

Powerful Insights for Acupuncturists
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2003-01-24
This is one of the books required by the California State Board. And it's the only one I enjoyed studying.

It was only used at our school by teachers for classroom use or testing purposes. However, it contains some advanced channel and pattern pathomechanisms... the kind we only get a little exposure to in English.

Occasionally a Chinese teacher will talk about something like this for which we have no literature (For example, my herbal teacher mentioned a pattern called "Dragon Fire" which was mentioned nowhere in the English literature), so I already suspected we were missing out on some pathomechanisms, etc. Acu Case Histories fills in some of the gaps.

Especially interesting is the section on neurology. There is some fascinating discussion of the Du meridian, its relationship to neurological problems, pathogens, and other meridians.

This book is acupuncture only... in fact, half the patients in the book had already tried biomedicine AND HERBAL MEDICINE without result. It's easy (with the basic training we get in school) to begin to find herbal medicine more powerful than acupuncture. This book will show you some of the ways in which acupuncture can exceed herbal medicine.

Practical and Conveys Conceptual Understanding
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2006-08-01
I found this book to be more practical than most books on the subject, and it also gives a good conceptual understanding -- something all too rare, in this area.

If you want to learn what really works, is practical, and learn to go beyond using approaches that are like mechanical, rote formulas...you'll like this book.

Any of the boook of this author is more then useful or helpful. You cannot read this book once or twice, you will read it permanentely during your acupuncture practice, finding every day something new and important. Knowing this book you will easy navigate in the world of all acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine books having possibility to different real writers and "small workers" in Acupuncture.
This book put together many different books by different themes by same author. But most important that it show you correct explanation of normal and pathologycal aspects of energetics in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It will help you to different normal condition from disease, to do correct diagnostic and proper treatment instead follow point perscriptions of "small workers".
Same author translated Su Weng and Ling Shu too - most explained and full translations I ever saw.

excellent discussion of the triple heater
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-03-17
Although this book was originally published some time ago, it is still a really good text for understanding the Chinese concept of the triple heater and the eight extra meridians. I understood more on reading this text than I did from any of the other standard texts used in acupuncture courses. The authors have a clear espository writing style and the illustrations contribute to the readers understanding of the concepts.

The author conveys his knowledge and experience superbly. In content, clarity and applicability, this book is a real winner. In this subspecialty (acupuncture for children) there a few quality publications, this is one of the best. The information is of practical value for both lay people and professionals. Parents, nurses, physicians and acupuncturists will greatly benefit from this one.

As I was shelving this book, at a local thrift store where I work, I decided I had to have this book. I was not disappointed!! It was super! I am now trying to find out if he wrote other books. It took me less than a day to read this. Anyone out there know where I can find others?
