Without a doubt this author clearly and simply states techniques invaluable to anyone pursuing the path of energy work. My studies involve Reiki/Shamballa and laying of hands. What I've been slowly learning from session to session this woman had already discovered 26 years ago. This book belongs under your pillow! :)

The visual graphics of Q-Puncture rise above other acupuncture multimedia products. I'm a student of acupunture and I've done a great deal of searching to find tools to assist in my studies. I was so pleased to find Q-Puncture. The software includes beautifully designed 3-D animation for needle incertion and graphics that are visually stimulating and quick in locating points and pathways. I also liked the fact that Q-Puncture included OM diagnosis and even Western Medical references. Where I used to put tabs on my text books to help me save time in finding specific information, now it's just a click of a mouse! It's easy to use and packed with the acupuncture information needed to study for the California Licensing Board (the most challenging exam of its kind in the US). I highly recommend adding Q-Puncture to your study materials, as well as, a reference tool for your office.

Excellent 3D illustration of meridian points and its descrip

I've seen numbers of acupuncture books and some softwares but by far, this was the best and easiest tool to learn about acupuncture. You have to see what they did with 3D technology to show the meridian points. Along with 3D illustrations, every point includes sections of "1) Where to find 2) What it does 3) When to use and finally 4) How to needle" I found these features to be the most useful and easy to understand. Other fine features included were, explanation and philosophy of Oriental medicine, demonstrations of 14 channel pathways, and therapeutic effects as well as clinical explanations of commonly diagnosed illnesses. You will find this book&software to be absolutely wonderful.

A Modern Perspective on an Ancient Practice
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2006-04-17
This book explains Chinese Medicine, which seems like Eastern mysticism on the face of it, and uses Western concepts to approach the subject matter. For instance, Five Element Theory is explained using Western literary figures, like Uncle Scrooge, Don Quixote, and Frankenstein. This is an excellent book for anyone seeking a professional and rational approach to massage therapy, without sacrificing the traditional understanding of it.

Shiatsu Massage and Chinese Medicine are still practiced today and have been practiced for hundreds, possibly thousands of years. This book takes the old world language and successfully modernizes it, lending it legitimacy. For this reason, the book is a must have for professional therapists who want to be taken seriously.

This book is not only written well, it is comprehensive in its approach to cover much of Eastern medicine. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is studying or wants to study massage therapy. For the student also, there are self exams to test what you've learned. There is a tremendous amount of knowledge contained within these pages. Excellent book!

written fluidly with the understanding and true intent of shiatsu. explains underlying principles well, and then takes the reader to the deeper understanding of meridians, points, and diagnosis. describes the energies of the meridians and points, telling what stimulation or sedation of them does for the patient/client. excellent pictures showing how to properly stretch meridians and press points for the desired effects. shows much more than the typical "point and press" methods of other systems of shiatsu. the techniques have a similarity to thai massage and breema. after giving a basic understanding of how to give a shiatsu treatment on the surface level, chris jarmey then takes the reader into the more esoteric and deeper aspects of shiatsu, to its core understanding where true healing takes place. i find this book so helpful in that it presents both the mechanics and the more spiritual aspects of shaitsu, and does not speak only to one or the other, but both equally.

Incredibly clear, well written and well illustrated

Shiatsu is a gentle, deeply effective holistic system of health care. It comes from Asia and has been developing for over 5000 years. A sister therapy to acupuncture, it employs finger pressure to gently stimulate the body's natural healing ability. Touch is also an extremely important method of communication between individuals of one species and between species, and horses are particularly responsive to both the healing and the communicating touch of Shiatsu.

Many of the techniques that Pamela Hannay demonstrates in this book are simple, can be learned quickly and are easy to apply. They are safe because they require only the application of the hands in a gentle and natural way. They treat physical problems and those of emotional pain and stress. The author emphasizes the importance of self preparation for the practitioner and shows how meditation can help develop an understanding of how a horse thinks and feels. Among the many benefits of this therapy are:

- Early recognition and treatment of problems before they escalate.
- Treatment and elimination of musculo-skeletal problems including stiffness and some forms of chronic lameness.
- Maintenance of suppleness thus reducing susceptibility to injury.
- Maximizing physical potential.
- Activating the immune system.
- Stimulating circulation, the nervous system and the release of hormones.
- Relaxing and energizing the horse and promoting a feeling of wellbeing.
- Establishing and deepening communication between horse and rider.

I used the book to treat my two dogs. One dog I treated for itchy ears and nasal congestion, and the results were immediate relief. The other dog I treated for mania and hyperactivity with temors and the results were great. I used an energy point stimilator/indicator as I am not a vet or acupuncturist. I found the book easy to read and the illustrations clear. The points recommended for treatment worked well for my dogs issues. I will try to find the chinese herbal remedies recommended as well.

this book is written by a true master of shiatsu. masunaga has taken his life work and written a concise book that serves not only as an introduction to shiatsu, but also has techniques for the advanced practitioner. mainly a book of techniques and diagnosis.

This is a modern classic

I cannot rate this book highly enough. It is an invaluable resource for professional Shiatsu practitioners or beginners. Masunaga takes you immediately into the world of Oriental Medicine with clear, concise descriptions of the theories that make OM a powerful healing force in the world today.

There are literally hundreds of photos, detailing his particular Shiatsu style, that will allow anyone to understand how to apply the techniques described. He also has a fine section on energetic diagnosis to assist with understanding when to apply Shiatsu and which techniques to use.

An additional section provides a series of Shiatsu stretches with manipulations to do for yourself. These are simple and effective. Learn them and use for your own well-being.

If you only buy one book on Shiatsu, let it be this one. It has been around for over 20 years and is still the one that I recommend to my patients for home helth care. I also use it when teaching graduate students at the Seven Gates Institute.

I noticed that there is no information on this book, though it could help many students, so here is the info listed on the Blue Poppy Press website:

"This workbook is for students who are preparing for the NCCAOM Board exams and for licensed practitioners who wish to bone up on both point location and theory. All questions are written in Board Exam format and there are many questions using illustrations to test the reader's visual knowledge of point location as well.

Fred Jennes, M.Ed., L.Ac., Dipl.Ac. & C.H., received his B.A. and M.Ad. from Duke Univeristy. He has had wide experience in both teaching and curriculum design in various areas of higher education. He has also worked as a researcher and systems analyst at Duke Univeristy Medical Center. Since completing his training in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, Fred has served on the governing board of the Acupuncture Association of Colorado, is currently a site visitor for the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM), and is both a faculty member and advisory board member of Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Denver, CO."
