I purchased this book when I was half way through massage therapy school. I wish I would have had it right from the start! It is a great book with amazing real pictures of muscles. I brought this book to class and about 1/2 the class wanted to order it! The instructor saw it and was going to look into getting it for future classes. Just get it; you won't be sorry you did. Money well spent!

This book is fantastic for all the reasons the other reviewers gave, but oh that's not all...the CD-ROM is fantastic really amazing. It's a great way to see the muscles again in another view. The images are of computer generated models to show the attachments and then there is a video of a therapist massaging the muscle. It took me months to watch this CD-ROM because I had no idea it was going to be this great. Buy this book it's well worth the money. Plus, it's a business expense!

The instructions are presented clearly, and several variations are included which is good because I don't like to use the prescribed steps she describes as her main method. Most of the book is spent with examples, which is no surpirse because the method is so simple that it couldn't take up too much space.

Like anything this has to be used to be effective, and as well as it works I am amazed how little I use it since when I do use it, it really helps me feel better. Now I've just gotta find a shrink to analyze why I don't do this more often. That said, if you remember to use this simple, quick, and effortless technique, I think you will probably be happy you bought the book.

I used this last evening, just reading the first couple of chapters and using the step-by-step how to's. And guess what? It works! I'm so grateful for the difference.

What was bothering me for weeks (dentist appointment) now doesn't get much of a reaction from me. Yesterday and the days before that I most probably would have said dentist appointment--AAAAAHHHH!

so, thanks, I'll be reading more of the book...

(BTW, for pain, I've been using magnetic therapy like Healing With MagnetsPain-Free with Magnet Therapy: Discover how Magnets can Help Relieve Arthritis, Sports Injuries, Fibromyalgia, and Chronic PainHoMedics MW-MHC TheraP Hot/Cold Therapy Eye Mask with the Power of Magnets and those relax my muscles too.The idea is tapping the energy centers on our body balances/removes the negative energy around us.

So, you think of the problem you'd like to get rid of, say an opposing affirmation you'd like to neutralize it with, then tap/rub the energy centers, and heal it away.

Well, try it. I did, I felt better right away. It's a nice skill to learn. Teach it to your kids, to your friends, family, it's easy and so simple to do.

To do it on animals, just imagine being your pet, and do the same process as your pet.

Simply the Best Book on Self-healing

After reading this book I finally feel confident enough to use EFT, or "Meridian Therapy" as the author prefers to call it, by myself! The book lays out the process in a very clear, concise and friendly manner. This is accomplished in the first 50 or so pages. (For instance, the locations of the tapping points are shown more clearly than I've seen anywhere else.)

The rest of the book provides more in-depth examples and case studies, to assist in making it even more easy to understand the process.

This book gives you more than the method; it also boosts your self-confidence so you more easily get started on the journey. Very strongly recommended!

Having purchased and watched the DVDs from Gary Craig regarding the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), I was curious as to whether Ms. Arenson's book would bring any additional insights into applying it; it certainly did. I particularly liked the large number of real-world examples that she cites. If you are interested in a highly practical book about applying EFT to address all sorts of issues, I highly recommend this one.

This book is a wealth of information on pain referral patterns for any particular muscle, so in that regard I find it very valuable. However it does not give exact information on how to massage trigger points but focuses almost exclusively on how to stretch to relieve targetted muscular pain as well as strengthening exercises but nothing on how to massage these particular trigger points to help break up the spasm. The pictures are grouped regionally so as to find the affected muscle quickly but since the title said Trigger Point Therapy for Myofascial Pain: The Practice of Informed Touch I kinda expected more of the informed touch aspect.

I read almost every reflexology book available during my reflexology certification process. If you were to only buy one book on reflexology, I would recommend it be The Reflexology Atlas. It is the most comprehensive text on the subject, and has superior illustrations of the reflex points.

Especially impressive and valuable to the reader or practitioner are the illustrations. Drawings of the bones of the feet as well as the reflex points are superimposed over photographs of the feet and/or hands. The photographs in the book are extraordinarily helpful. These are probably the most helpful reflexology maps that I have seen or used. The body's organs are also represented as color illustrations superimposed over photographs of the body which is quite helpful for readers learning about human anatomy. Reflex points are highlighted on photographs of the feet from many different perspectives, helping students to learn where reflex points are to be found on the sides of the feet and ankles, as well as on the dorsal (top) side of the foot.

The text is easy to understand, and does a good job explaining the background of reflexology as a healing modality. By following the text and photographs readers will learn how to perform a full reflexology session. A detailed discussion (with illustrations) of reflex points on the hands and ears are also included. Massage, acupuncture, and shiatsu are also touched upon.

I'm a professional Massage Therapist and Reflexologist and this is an excellent resource to use for my students. This book also covers the meridians, although I wish that aspect was a bit more exact in showing it on the anatomy. Very comprehensive. Packed with lots of good info including some ear. Big book size wise. Kind of quirky as I think the authors are European and some wording is not congruent, but all the info is very accurate. Excellent resource especially if you want more than just the basics.

Bottom Line: Buy It
This is an empowering resource for anyone new to kinesiology or touch for health, and also to those interested in delving more into the fields.
Though there are classes to become certified in Touch for Health, you do not need a medical degree or any kind of certification to make use of this book in your own health.
It explains the basics, and breaks each organ meridian down to what muscle groups are impacted, how to test for that particular muscle, what nutrition supports or hinders that muscle, clearing the neurolymphatics, as well as how to trace, strengthen or sedate that meridian, numerous other things, and it's filled with great diagrams for reference.
I would also highly recommend Energy Medicine by Donna Eden as a great companion book.
My only complaint, is the size of the book (it's rectangle in shape) and its binding (spiral bound) is not very compatible for constant referencing.

I battled MRSA staff infection for over 5 months after trying every antibiotic known to man. Dr. Couey came to my church and challenged me to try his "Couey Challenge" which is in this book. I did and after only 2 weeks of faithfully following his diet, I tested MRSA free. My surgeon was amazed at how this diet beat a staff infection that his lab was saying could not be combated by any known antibiotic. It has been over 8 months and I am still staff free. Thank you Dr. Couey for telling me about this book! I recommend it to everyone that I know!

I love this book! I am recommending it to all my friends. Truly it is a new concept in cooking and eating! Nutritionists are telling us to eat more fruits and vegetables, but sometimes it is difficult to know how to create meals with so many ingredients. Robin Jeep's recipes often look like they are throwing in everything but the kitchen sink, but the end results are tasty and healthy. In the black bean soup, it went against my preconceived ideas to cook carrot juice, but I made the carrot juice and added it to the soup, and it really gave it a richer flavor. I really like that you can make a big pot of vegetable soup without meat and without bouillon. I also like how she incorporates beans and greens into the soups. I think most people could benefit from cooking this way.

Who says good health can't be fun or easy? Robin Jeep's book lets it be both. Her information is practical and her recipes are delicious. The whole book feels as appealing as the food is for body and soul. Like anything new, it'll take a little practice to make this way of eating a habit, but it's worth it. I like feeling the extra energy available to me for other things now. This is important to me because I'm committed to living my life with clarity, focus, ease, and grace.

This book has changed our lives. My husband and I have never felt better in our lives. This plan is easy to follow and Robin's receipes are fantastic and you are never hungry. We wanted to lose weight and lower our cholosterol and triglycerides and we have done just that. We were fortunate to be able to take Robin's 7 week class which was wonderful and made us accountable to this way of eating to achieve optimum health. We both never realized that we were not feeling good and now we have more energy and clarity and we have lost weight too. My husband has 20 pounds and I have lost 11 pounds and feel great. We don't want to end up being a cancer statistic and we have learned the science behind eating a whole and organic food plan. Dr. Couey and his input are fantastic and the results of this plan are wonderful. Our medical doctors are amazed. You will not be disappointed with this book, it is amazing.

My husband and I have now been following this nutrient-dense diet plan for over 30 days. We both feel great and have lost weight. My husband's chronic acid-reflux is now history and the "brain-fog" has cleared away completely for both of us. Robin's creative recipes make this lifestyle eating plan interesting and delicious (no deprived feelings whatsoever).
It just feels so good to know my cells are happy to receive the nutrients they need to thrive and keep me healthy.

Thanks Robin...now I'll be looking for you to publish a full cookbook soon! God Bless You.

Master Teacher with the rarer gift to succeed in print

Review Date: 2008-12-07
I have deeply appreciated the capacity of the author to not only synthesize the western and eastern traditions of acupuncture for himself, but also his rarer gift for communicating it very clearly. He has created an extraordinarily organized, sequential presentation of the information, thereby making systematic pattern recognition rapidly comprehensible to those of us who are trained in allopathic medicine, yet new to the world of chinese medicine.

Instead of providing a cookbook for point recipes, he's succeeded in drawing a trail guide in our language which provides not just the big picture, but also excellent coverage of the surface detail needed to quickly begin navigating on the ground with a creative capacity to adapt to individual circumstances. The text contains a weatlh of substantive information that I anticipate will also preserve its value as a critical reference from beginning to advanced practice.

Despite being written in 1995, it remains remarkably current, including the representative patient characters developed to illustrate the 12 basic energy patterns distributed across the 3 principle meridians. He respectfully and effectively integrates contributions of TCM, Five Elements and other eastern models with the French model of acupuncture energetics -- creating a framework for the practitioner to launch further learning in these other disciplines if desired. Once the basics are described, he also covers the subsystems for tendinomuscular meridians, distinct meridians, curious meridians, the shu-mu subsystem and somatotopic systems such as auricular acupuncture.

Although the terrain is constantly changing, I would personally hope he someday creates a sequel updating his coverage of the improved clinical evidence base and basic sciencific studies which have been accumulating more rapidly since 2000. While many articles are now emerging, his gift for synthesis would be an asset in communicating the essential contributions of these developments.

Another strength this book offers for the practitioner at any stage in their learning is the wealth of well designed illustrations for all meridians and points, broken down in very logical conceptual units. These allow one to focus on the critical information without extraneous clutter. All point diagrams use realistic photos of a live male and female model rather than cartoon drawings. This feature greatly increases the accuracy of understanding relationships between the points and topographical anatomy.

I am a current student in his medical acupuncture course for physicians -- also a five star adventure. The textbook cannot replace the organization he has masterfully woven into the design of his live course supplemented with structured hands-on anatomy and needling lessons. I can't imagine wanting to attempt the practice of this model of acupuncture without attending the course. However, his gift for keeping his audience awake, intrigued, and frankly inspired quite thoroughly permeates his written work.

Joseph Helms is a giant in the field of Medical Acupuncture. This text clearly spells out the French Energetic method of acupuncture, and the six energy axis. A distinct set of fictional personalities are described in order to help the reader understand the concept the the "functional biopsychotype". The text also describes other fundamental acupuncture concepts, such as five element theory. The binary code of the trigrams associated with each acupuncture meridian is addressed in the later chapters. Read it and read it again and again and again.

Acupuncture Energetics by Joseph Helms is a very comprehensive textbook on medical acupuncture for physicians and practitioners with western training. It also encompasses most aspects of Traditional Chinese Medicine. For the western practitioner learning acupuncture for the first time, it brings you from a foundation of western medical knowledge and experience into the eastern paradigm. The book provides clear and precise anchors of knowledge and clinical examples illustrating the energetics of acupuncture in the context of TCM.

The organization of the book makes it very easy to use, too. Overall, this book shows a high level of quality on all levels, and is a valuable resource for those of us in search of health and healing!

When this book was first released, I gave a copy to my 75-year-old mother, who has osteoarthritis. Over and over, she's told me about consulting this book when trying to decide whether or not to try some remedy that a friend has suggested. She feels that it has kept her from spending a fortune on snake oil, and has made her bold enough to try alternative approaches that have been helpful, such as glucosamine-chondroitin supplements. Obviously it was the perfect gift.

This book is great for those interested in Chinese medicine. It gives a great overview of the different aspects of Chinese medicine without over doing it. It is easy to read, has photos to illustrate ideas, and is not too dry. A great place to start exploring the world of Chinese medicine!

This is a good book for general and basic information about TCM. It lacks details about treatments and diseases, though.

Easy to read, and written by a master! BUY ME! :o)

I've had the fortune to study under Master Holland. I'd simply like to assure everyone out there that this is a man who knows what he's talking about! Insightful, well-spoken, and brilliant, you'll definitely want to pick up all of his books! Pick up this little wonder if you're someone worried about your first acupuncture experience, or are a practicioner wanting to offer a bit reassurance to your clients. Worth the buy!!

This book pulled me in the moment I opened it. It is incredibly easy to read and is a very good introductory guide to Traditional Chinese Medicine. I would recommend it to anyone who is curious about TCM but does not want to read large books on the topic. This book is written without lots jargon or unnecessary details. It is easy to follow and understand.
Read it, you won't regret it, especially if you are a beginner such as myself.

An abundance of information for such a slim book

This book is a little gem. It sets out the basis of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the theoretical framework and types of treatment (acupuncture, acupressure, moxibustion, cupping, herbal medicine and Qi gong) in an amazingly easy to understand way. It also includes additional information on the history of TCM, accreditation in the US, and safety aspects. If you want to get to grips with what TCM is all about, but don't want to be bogged down with a tome, this is the book for you.
